The Wagner dynasty

Hi! Yes, definitely an article for Melchior. I've taken some notes from that book I was talking about, so I'll have enough material for a reasonable article. H.M. Wagner's brother George might be possible as well ... the book has a chapter about him which I haven't read yet, and I believe he founded at least one school in Brighton, so I'll see what else I can come up with. Gothic House

Hi – yes, I'll get down there at some point in the next few days. When I went past on the bus on Saturday (that's when I noticed it had opened) I didn't see any significant changes from when it was the Rock 'n' Roller Bar. Unfortunately the main part of the building (i.e. the bit that used to be Blockbuster Video) is still empty; the bar is only in the corner part of the building. Brighton and Hove

Hello! Sorry I haven't had a chance to go down there recently; have been unexpectedly busy off-Wiki. I expect to have more time after this weekend to resume article and photography work, weather permitting of course! (It has turned wet today, but the forecast is improving.) If I haven't been down to Gothic House before 18th May, I will certainly have a chance on that day, because on that day I will be going on an tour inside Embassy Court (as part of the Brighton Festival Fringe). Of course I will take lots of pics inside, and hopefully from the roof terrace if we go up there! On the same day I will be going on a tour of the cemeteries, so I might get a chance to photograph graves of notable people. Let me know if there are any graves you would particularly like me to look out for, for articles you have done in the past.

Henry Michell Wagner is very close to completion now; and recently I have been working on a series of Brighton-related articles which I will put live soon. (Architects, buildings and suburbs.) However, another thing I have been working on but have got sidetracked away from, and which you may like to help with, is a complete overhaul of List of people from Brighton and Hove. After some discussion with others, it was decided that a table format would be better and would make unreferenced entries more obvious, so I have started building it starting at the "A" section. Meanwhile, I have been purging dubious entries and putting them on the talk page, formatting and adding new references, and adding more info where possible. As you will see, I have only got to the "B" section! I'll be working on it from time to time, and if you feel like helping out you'd be very welcome: it's a very large job. Hi again – thanks for your notes. Sadly the Embassy Court tour has completely sold out (there are five in total during May), so that will have to wait until next year; same with the cemeteries tour. The festival has obviously been very popular this year! On Prestonville, I saved a map from OpenStreetMap somewhere on my computer, so I'll upload it later. Not sure where to put it in the article; I might have to shuffle some of the pics. If you want to add to the List of people from Brighton and Hove, don't worry about the table formatting; just add any new entries as a normal bullet point below the table and I'll come along and sort out the formatting. It will be a long time before I get to the bottom and get it all formatted, so it's very much a work in progress. Elm Grove is a very interesting area, especially the views across the city of course, so there's plenty to write about; more to come over the next day or two. Hi – thanks for the link to the video; lots of interesting scenes in there! The "Alice Dreams" shop is down Gardner Street in the North Laine, the men near the end of the video were at the top of Madeira Place on St James's Street (with a brief glimpse of a Brighton & Hove bus going past), with the Brighton Wheel and the Gelateria diLuca ice cream place also visible, and I've been trying to work out which church the married couple are standing outside. It looks very familiar, but I can't place it! I had a look in Category:Music videos but there are no "geographical" subcategories, so at the moment it's probably best just to keep it within Category:Brighton in fiction (I also looked at Category:Music in Brighton and Hove, but it's not really in the scope of that.) The spelling in the Elkman infobox generator (http://www2.elkman.net/nrhp/ ) is spelled differently than the article's name. I cannot get it to work in Focus, so I cannot verify. Please check.

The infobox generator gives much of the information for the infobox. It does have mistake, but it is a good source. Gay culture in Perth

Kind of unfortunate you didn't reach out to the Wikipedian community during your stay in Perth - we could probably have given you some tips much earlier in your stay.

I don't doubt that your representation of the elite western suburbs or younger people in that region is pretty spot-on - there's plenty of Perth people who regard the western suburbs set as another species - but there's a world of Perth outside there, especially in the north and south. In electoral terms, there's 42 state electorates in Perth but just three of them (Cottesloe, Nedlands and Churchlands) in the west.

Friends of mine in the teaching profession have noticed the current generation coming through are quite socially libertarian and compassionate in their views compared to previous generations - although it should be emphasised they all work in the state system. Thinking across my friends, a fair number are gay, bring their partners to social events or pubs or etc and nobody really cares. Big change from even 10 or 15 years ago. General attitude in Perth to most things is "as long as it's not in my face, I don't care", and that has afforded a greater degree of tolerance in Perth than, for example, one sees in Adelaide or Brisbane. It also unfortunately has a "cloak of invisibility" effect. Melbourne has the virtue of being big, people have been moving there for years and it's overall a more socially progressive place comparable with Vancouver, Berlin or San Francisco due in part to a very different history (research Deakinite liberalism if you're ever bored). Every country seems to have one...

As for venues - there used to be a strong but highly insular scene in Perth based around the Court, Connections and a Thursday night venue (which moved and changed names several times), but the whole scene basically died because of its exclusion of newcomers or those different to its predetermined norms which was probably a product of the pre-1989 days. To this day the Pride Parade/Fair Day is run by the same people who ran it in the 1990s, and all it's done is shrink - it's almost shut down at least three times. Full legalisation in 2002 and increasing community acceptance combined with the refusal of the organised gay community to adapt means younger people have found ways around it, such as attending "straight" venues or interfacing with university Queer Collectives. People in fields like art or drama pretty much have their own subculture. Fun world of smaller cities...

As for WLP, I'd thought about helping it out but really can't think of too many things we can help with! In Wikipedia article terms there are no links for the relevant legislation or other such things, which could well be developed. Orderinchaos 02:10, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
