Vellimalai Sri Vivekananda Ashramam is a Hindu spiritual center and pilgrimage site located in the foothills of Vellimalai in Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu. This ashrama was founded in 1940 by Swami Ambananda, a direct disciple of Sri Sarada Devi.[1]
The ashrama serves as a center for various human welfare activities and is dedicated to the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sarada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda. After his passing in 1951, Swami Madhurananda took over and expanded the ashrama's activities, including spiritual retreats, religious preaching, and helping the poor and needy.[2] Currently Swami Chaitanyanandaji Maharaj is the president of the Ashram.[3]
To enhance the social and religious services of the Ashram, the Hindu Dharma Vidya Peedam was established in 1984 as a dedicated educational endowment. Volunteers conduct spiritual and religious classes and seminars, instilling spiritual values and knowledge among the village youth.[4] The Peedam administers various examinations at different levels each year, conducts convocation ceremonies, and awards certificates to successful candidates.[5][6] A monthly magazine titled Veda Murasu[7] is being published since 1986.[8] The Ashram is associated with Seva Bharati the healthcare and Educational Organisation.[9]
