Wikipedia:Adopt-a-typo/Cite template parameters

This page is intended to help editors discover typos and other issues to fix related to parameters used by citation templates used for referencing on Wikipedia. Each link searches for a particular problem. Errors deemed common are in bold.

Each entry can be dated by the last time it was "nursed". As time since the last nursing increases, the link's background color will change each year it's neglected, starting with light yellow, then yellow, then orange, and finally red. If you clear an entry's results of issues, be sure to update the source code of the entry with the date you did it to reset this coloring back to the default background. Notes can be added that display in tooltips upon hover to let other editors know what's going on with a particular entry and who's fixing things.

access-date

edit

|access-date= (alias |accessdate=) — used to indicate date a cite template's |url= parameter was last successfully accessed.

Common misspellings

  • User:Jason Quinn cleaned all search results for all Wiki-projects on November 22, 2020. The frequency of the new search hits since the last time I cleaned all of these was consistent with my previous bolding.
  • Suntooooth cleaned all search results on May 30th, 2023. Bolding seems accurate, and entries without notes are ones where I forgot to note how many articles had that mistake (all without notes had >=1 articles).

publisher

|publisher= — used to indicate the publisher

  • User:Jason Quinn cleaned all but one search results on November 23, 2020 (except for "publishe" which has many hits to fix). All these were just a handful or less instances to fix, most of them had zero hits. Quick and easy group. Bolded only one term which just barely hit my threshold for bolding.
  • Suntooooth cleaned the full category (excluding "publishe"). Missing letter errors seemed the most common.

location

edit

|location= — used to indicate where the book was published

  • Most checked on May 30th, 2023 by Suntooooth. All remaining results are either sic or in image filenames (which I'm hesitant to correct in case it breaks something).
  • Remaining ones not checked on May 30th cleaned on June 1st, 2023 by Suntooooth.

archive-url

edit

|archive-url= (alias |archiveurl=) — used to give the URL of an archive of the content given by |url=.

  • User:Jason Quinn cleaned all search results for all Wiki-projects on July 25, 2022. These seem to be rare misspellings. Most hits were strange and led to parameters that were commented out and had a site that still uses HTTP which Firefox flags as a security risk. I just removed those code comments.
  • Suntooooth cleaned all search results on May 30th, 2023. Agreed that these are very rare misspellings.

archive-date

|archive-date= (alias |archivedate=) — used to date the archive of the content given by |url=.

  • Suntooooth added this section and cleaned all results on May 30th, 2023. Seems that results are very uncommon, with only two in the whole section. Still worth checking every few years.
