Function overview: Fixes broken links to NFL.com player pages within Template:Infobox NFL biography, after the website recently changed its URL scheme and rendered most links useless here. Further information on how this works here.
Automatic, Supervised, or Manual: Supervised
Programming language(s): AutoWikiBrowser
Source code available: [1]
Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate): [2]
Edit period(s): One time run
Estimated number of pages affected: ~18,000 per Category:Infobox NFL biography articles with old NFL.com URL
Namespace(s): Mainspace
Exclusion compliant (Yes/No): Not aware of any NFL-related articles that use Template:Bots
Function details: Changes the values of the |nfl=
and |nflnew=
parameters within Template:Infobox NFL biography to reflect the new NFL.com player page URL scheme. Previous schemes were letters and digits, and then full name with a backslash and several random digits. New scheme is just "first name" hyphen "last name" with some variations if there are multiple players with the same name or special characters. Articles with special characters will be skipped for now and manually inputted later, and a tracking category with a list of articles that need to be replaced is at Category:Infobox NFL biography articles with old NFL.com URL. I will inspect every edit to ensure the links properly work once the edits are saved. I have already run this on 20-something articles with my main account (a few examples: [3], [4], [5], [6]) but I am looking to prevent an enormous edit count influx on my main account.

- Trial complete. It had a 90% "success" rate, I only needed to fix 5 links afterwards. It was really a 98% "success" rate since there are inherent issues with the URLs out of my control. This and this grabbed the correct article title name, but NFL.com listed the player by a nickname. This and this had URLs with a random digit at the end because of multiple players with the same name, and it's impossible to know how NFL.com sorts them until after looking at the URLs. This edit is a little concerning, I have no idea why it didn't grab the nfl parameter in the infobox, and in the other 400+ AWB edits I made using my main account with the same script I never encountered an issue like this.
