Operator: The Earwig (talk · contribs)
Automatic or Manually assisted: Automatic, unsupervised
Programming language(s): Python
Source code available: available through tools:~earwig/earwigbot: blptaggerbot_run.py
Function overview: The bot adds |blp=yes
to either {{WikiProject Banners}} or {{WikiProject Banner Shell}} on talk pages where {{WikiProject Biography}} is used along with |living=yes
and {{BLP}} is not used.
Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate): Wikipedia:Bot requests/Archive 34#BLP tagging?
Edit period(s): Weekly on Thursdays
Estimated number of pages affected: Unknown (will provide details later)
Exclusion compliant (Y/N): Y
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): Y
Function details: {{BLP}} is an important talk page notice that is normally displayed by {{WikiProject Biography}} automatically when |living=yes
is specified. However, when the Biography WikiProject template is hidden by {{WPB}} or {{WPBS}}, the {{BLP}} template is not displayed. To correct this problem, both of the banner templates have a parameter, |blp=yes
, which places {{BLP}} above the banner shell. The bot will go through talk pages with {{WikiProject Biography|living=yes}}, either {{WPB}} or {{WPBS}}, and not {{BLP}}, adding |blp=yes
to the banner shell template if it is not already there. The main query is done via MySQL, so it is quick and easy. — The Earwig (talk) 03:12, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What happened at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Frankie_Goes_to_Hollywood&diff=prev&oldid=350708166 ? Josh Parris 02:23, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Seems fine to me. What's wrong with it? — The Earwig (talk) 02:24, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Like Line of succession to the British throne, it isn't a biography of a living person. Not much you can do about that, there seem to be a bunch of bogus BLP tags floating around. Josh Parris 02:30, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Approved. Go forth and tag; I'd love to see some thoughts on addressing all the non-BLPs tagged as BLPs. Josh Parris 02:34, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
