Automatic or Manually Assisted: Manually started and supervised when running, performs edits automatically.
Programming Language(s): Uses Wikipedia:AWB with autosave function
Function Overview: Adds the "listas" parameter to instances of Template:WPBiography so that talk pages on which it appears are sorted in accordance with Wikipedia:Categorization of people#Ordering names in a category.
Edit period(s): continuous, as needed
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): N
Function Details: I've developed regular expressions suitable to perform this task for many articles in AWB, and an effective means by which to avoid the articles for which the application of the expressions would not produce correct results. Example AWB edits made in this manner are [1] [2] [3]. Making substantial progress in this task, however, requires use of the AWB autosave function, available only to approved bots, and an edit rate which would not be appropriate for sustained use on an account without a bot flag. The AWB application would be under operator supervision at all times when running.
Discussion
edit- Given that there are lots of exceptions/modifications to the Surname, Forename style (Chinese names, British Peers, etc.), I think that the parameter should only be added on a pre-approved list of articles (i.e. a list where all the exceptions have been stripped out by WikiProject participants or similar. - When adding the parameter using AWB, I've been manually skipping over saints, notability, Chinese names, and any other possible exceptions to the regular expression rules. Exceptions are apparent from the names themselves, and do not require a review of the corresponding article text. If I were adding the parameter using a bot account and the AWB autosave function, I would continue to avoid incorrect rule application by deleting exceptions from the list before AWB processes them. The bot account would simply avoid having to press the save button thousands of times; the bot flag would also prevent flooding of RC feeds. Erik9 (talk) 22:29, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Ah, well in that case... Approved for trial (20 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. Richard0612 20:03, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Done. It seems to be working very well. Erik9 (talk) 01:14, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
