Operator: FinalRapture (talk · contribs)
Automatic or Manually assisted: Automatic
Programming language(s): PHP
Source code available: When done
Function overview: Detects problems on recently uploaded images and takes action on them (tagging for deletion, etc)
Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate): Attempted discussion here, however I was told by other editors via IRC that taking this here would be better. There's also an enwiki-l thread about it pending moderation.
Edit period(s): Continuous
Estimated number of pages affected: 10epm at most
Exclusion compliant (Y/N): Yes
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): No
Function details: The robot will process recent uploads and check them for problems. The following is currently or planned to be checked:
- If the image description page is empty, tag it with {{di-no source no license}} and notify uploader
- If the image description page is missing a copyright tag, tag it with {{di-no license}} and notify uploader
- If the image is tagged as a non-free logo and is an SVG, the image is tagged with {{SVG-Logo}}
- If the image has an appropriate FUR but not a matching license, it is tagged with {{di-no license}} and the uploader is notified with a special template telling which tag needs to be added. (By default, the upload page fills out the form for the FUR, but never adds the right license)
- If the image is properly tagged and is fair-use and not used, it will take note of the image and go back an hour later to see if it is used. If it's still orphaned, it is tagged with {{Di-orphaned fair use}} and the uploader is notified
It's been running on my account for some time logging to my user page (User:FinalRapture/ISLog). I have not encountered any false positives yet.
Discussion
editHow long does it wait? Q T C 00:32, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- It's instantaneous to 30 seconds later (Runs in 30 second cycles). In almost all cases of detection an image copyright tag was not added after. I could always add a delay but in my opinion notifying users that there's a problem with their images while we are sure they are still active is our best bet to getting them to fix it. - I would disagree and say that 30 seconds is well inside the window of them still actively filling out/updating the description page. Q T C 01:02, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- What would be an appropriate delay? FinalRapture - † ☪ 01:12, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Quite honestly when dealing with some more complicated Library of Congress uploads it could take about 3 minutes, although on wikipedia stuff should all be FUR, so the length might be different. NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 02:48, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Okay, I think waiting 5 minutes is an acceptable amount of time. FinalRapture - † ☪ 04:05, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- Approved for trial (7 days). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. But for an overabundance of caution, let's try limiting the test to 10 minute waits before tagging images. MBisanz talk 04:02, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Rodger that, I'm about to head off to bed so I'll make the code changes tomorrow and begin testing then. FinalRapture - † ☪ 04:06, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Trial complete. FinalRapture - † ☪ 10:13, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
