Operator: NJA
Automatic or Manually assisted: Automatic, supervised with AWB
Programming language(s): N/A
Source code available: N/A
Function overview: Re-categorisation, particularly Category:User_talk_pages_with_Uw-coi_notices to Category:User_talk_pages_with_conflict_of_interest_notices
Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate):
Edit period(s): One time, possibly more manual re-cats in future if needed
Estimated number of pages affected: atleast 8700+ (amount in current old cat)
Exclusion compliant (Y/N): Y
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): N
Function details: I've soft-redirected the two old cats into the new one last week, but the bot that is supposed to re-cat doesn't seem to work. It said that if after a week to do it manually, which is what I planned to do. As it will be fully supervised by me there is little chance of damage to Wikipedia. Bot flag would be preferred as it would allow suppression of new messages trigger on user talk pages (which is where I'll be making the changes) and noratelimit. Admin bit won't allow new message suppression, and I don't want thousands of re-cats in my logs (I already did close to 300 on my account, and it's enough). - Note per discussion below, the bot could also perform other WP:CFD related tasks. NJA (t/c) 10:33, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

editHey Nja. This seems like a fairly straight forward request, and I can see the reason behind wanting a bot flag. Any reason why you're not planning to run it fully-automated? It's been previously approved as an automated task, and should be easy enough to get right with AWB. - Kingpin13 (talk) 14:16, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- If things go smoothly here, I don't see why it couldn't be a regular occurrence. I'm open to any and all suggestions. Cheers, NJA (t/c) 08:20, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Actually, I was talking about if the edits need reviewing manually :D. But I also think it would be a good idea to have this bot regularly recategorise pages in categories which have been renamed as a result of CfD, since it doesn't see like there is a bot doing this atm. For this particular category, you could also remove non-usertalk pages? - Kingpin13 (talk) 20:53, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Yea. That is something I'd definitely like to target, i.e. other cats needing redirected. I'd love to get going, but it seems that things go at snails pace around here! I'd prefer to not do this on my account; it's way too many ridiculous edits for my logs, plus I'd like to avoid triggering the new message notification on all those talk pages. - Hehe, can't seem to get what I'm trying to say through :). Up above you say the bot's editing will be supervised, I take that to mean it's only going to be semi-automated (i.e. you'll be checking each edit manually), is there some reason for it not just editing without this manual check? - Kingpin13 (talk) 21:26, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- No, but I'd need to poke around what's available with AWB as I've only had short use of it (started last week). I run Mac OS X, but decided to boot into Windows with boot camp to do some of the re-categorisation, but I realised I had so many more to do so I decided this would be a better method. - Ah, when/if the bot is approved for a trial, and it is approved to use AWB at WT:AWB/CP, it will be added to the bot section of WP:AWB/CP. This means that you'll get another tab in the options box, which will allow you to select automated editing. In fact, since this should be a fairly uncontroversial task, which has previously been approved Approved for trial (15 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. (we'll keep the edit low since you don't have a flag). I've gone a head and added you to WT:AWB/CP. - Kingpin13 (talk) 07:49, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Okay, I will login (shortly) to AWB with the 'bot' and set it up to re-cat (and do only 15). Unfortunately it will still trigger the new messages on their talk pages. Hopefully we can flag it as a bot in due course to finish the process and possibly take over where the others have left off. Cheers, NJA (t/c) 09:32, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- I've done 15 trial re-directs. I have only 8700+ more to go on the one category. Again, bot flag requested for three reasons: 1) didn't want to do these thousands of redirects on my main account; 2) the ability to suppress unwanted 'new message' trigger when doing minor redirects, and 3) ability speed this sucker up with AWB! Please advise. Cheers, NJA (t/c) 10:33, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Approved. to recategorise pages in categories renamed via CFD. The bot flag should be added as soon as a bureaucrat sees that this is approved. Best, - Kingpin13 (talk) 10:51, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
