editAre you familiar with WP:BOTPOL#Restrictions on specific tasks, particularly the "cosmetic changes" section? I'd be interested to know exactly which cosmetic changes you intend to apply. Anomie⚔ 02:42, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Only interwiki linking shouldnt be a problem. But for cosmetic changes, please declare the types of changes you intent to make. -- Tinu Cherian - 04:49, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Mainly I need to use the bot for the interwiki. The script which are using are from the latest from pywiki. The script for the interwiki is here. The actual downloaded from here. The file name is pywikiparser-nightly.zip. The second thing of cosmetic change script also downloaded from the same location and run for the test purpose. The using one is here. But some of the changes are not completely adhering WP:BOTPOL#Restrictions on specific tasks. So I may require your advice or not run the same.--Rameshng (talk) 09:06, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- It will be helpful if you can list the cosmetic changes, which you intend to do, here at the BRFA so that we have a more clear picture. For the interwiki linking I assume that you are using interwiki.py in autonomous mode. -- Tinu Cherian - 10:41, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- We appreciate your enthusiasm , but I see that you have already started your cosmetic changes with your bot even before the bot task / trial run approval. -- Tinu Cherian - 10:50, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- That was done when the testing of the scripts done. But immediately stopped. I still have to check the type of Cosmetic changes which this scripts are doing. I am not much familiar in the scripting, So really dont know how to check the type of change which cosmetic_changes.py will do! But seeing this, I should stop running the cosmetic_changes. But would like to run the interwiki.py --Rameshng (talk) 11:44, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- I looked through a few of your "test" edits, and many of the changes are exactly those we don't want done here: adding an unnecessary "/" to <br> tags, changing "Image" to "File", and adding spaces to headers. Simplifying piped wikilinks and moving categories after stub templates is ok, but isn't important enough to need a bot to go around specifically to do just that.
- Personally, I'm wary of approving you to run a bot at this time, as running a script you don't understand on the live site after it has been pointed out to you that the script does things that are not wanted here is not at all a good thing to do. Anomie⚔ 12:33, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- General fixes and cosmetic changes bots have always been denied running in bot mode. I am still OK for the bot running ONLY for interwiki linking. Comments, Anomie ? -- Tinu Cherian - 17:22, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Please check the interwiki link edit. I have found some issue in running the Cosmetic Changes and thus stopped running that in any of the wiki. If the interwiki link edits are, requesting you to grand permission to run the interwiki link bot--Rameshng (talk) 15:08, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Anomie, I am inclined to approve for trial ONLY for interwiki linking -- Tinu Cherian - 07:18, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Fine by me, as long as Rameshng understands that the bot may not run any other script on the bot without approval (unless that script edits only User:Rameshng, User talk:Rameshng, User:Rameshngbot, User talk:Rameshngbot, and/or subpages of those). And that the interwiki script needs to stay out of the Template namespace, since interwiki.py does not handle that correctly. Anomie⚔ 11:47, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Approved for trial (50 edits or 3 days). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. : I have interacted with Rameshng over IRC today and explained to him the importance/consequences of running any other scripts unapproved and interwiki linking on non-article namespace. User:Rameshng is an admin in ml.wiki and hence I hope he will act responsibly with bot. I am approving the bot for trial ONLY for interwiki linking. -- Tinu Cherian - 12:16, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Completed the trial editing for interwiki only. Request you to please check. Please avoid the cosmetic changes edits which has been done before this discussion and was done prior to the approval for trial. --Rameshng (talk) 08:12, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Approved. Changes looks good. Bot based on standard API/script.I have verified in the languages I know. I am approving this. I'll get a b'crat around to give the bot flag.
A few words of caution:
- Avoid interwiking in non-article namespace
- Don't run on unapproved tasks.
Some suggestions: You may apply for global bot status here so that you can run on different language wikis that allow global bots without approval. -- Tinu Cherian - 05:06, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
