Operator: Steve Sanbeg
Automatic or Manually Assisted: auto
Programming Language(s): python
Function Summary: first, tagging article talk pages for WikiProject Germany
Edit period(s) (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): For now, just one run, unless other runs are suggested.
Edit rate requested: The current run only needs 1000 edits, so rate isn't too important. I'd just used the pywikipedia default, unless something else is recommended.
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): N
Function Details: Fairly simple pywikipedia script; just scan articles in a category/namespace for the tag, add it if missing. I tagged a couple of these with my account, but it's probably too many to tag without a bot account.
Discussion
editCan you please e-mail me the code as I have a bot that is already designed for this. If your intrested I can just run mine. Betacommand (talk • contribs • Bot) 17:31, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I've emailed the current version of the code. I just added the part to copy the class from a related tempalte, though; so that's not fully in the emailed code. How similar is yours? According to my talk page, this will likely be done on other categories as well. -Steve Sanbeg 17:44, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I do not mean to offend you but for this kind of task that code is primitive. I've gotten some 30,000 talk page stagging done so if you would like you can just give me the cats and the name of the template and this will be done within a week. - Could you be more specific? It seems like a simple enough task. Anyway, the initial cat & both templates are already in the code. The only thing I haven't given you is the code I just added to fill in the values for the 50 I just added; but that's also simple, so the code's probably equally primitive. -Steve Sanbeg 18:13, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- Although I haven't seen the code, it appears that BetacommandBot doesn't fill in the class, so it would require an enhancement if he wants to reimplement this. -Steve Sanbeg 18:23, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- That is because most projects have their own rating system and thus I have had need to use that. Betacommand (talk • contribs • Bot) 18:25, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Yes, I realise the bots serve a different purpose, since yours is more generic, while mine is written for a specific project. But we don't want to do things half way just because a bot that's been running longer can already do half the job. As it is now, your bot doesn't have the same functionality; but I can't enhance mine without seeing the code you're referring to or some more specific feedback. -Steve Sanbeg 18:34, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Mine can do the full job, it has the same functionality. I just haven't applied it as that is not the default for most WP's. In regard to giving my code, Isolating the revelant code is difficult, and there is no need to have all my bot code given as alot of it doesnt pertain to this. - OK, you win. So I guess the thing to do, then, is finish the category I started; then keep on eye on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Germany to see if any others come up. -Steve Sanbeg 22:00, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'll assume this request has been Withdrawn by operator. —Mets501 (talk) 20:23, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
