Discussion
editJust noting this is mainly asking for re-approval of my bot, however with some new tasks added. Steve Crossin Talk/Help us mediate! 22:58, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- It looks like this would work in conjunction with your second task (cleaning up articles) rather than your first (delivering notices on user talk page). I suppose for bullet #2, above, you'd need a trial now and then a trial a week from now, to see if the links were still dead. Is that right? And how will you be storing the fact that a link was dead last time? – Quadell (talk) 01:44, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Well, it saves a list of dead links the first time it runs the check in the deadlinks subdirectory, the second time it runs, if any of those links are still dead, it puts it into a text file. However, it can make a note of it on the article's talk page. (I'm also seeking approval to re-commence the first and second tasks that were approved last year.) 1, 3 and 4 - Approved for trial (20 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. EACH. For task 2, Approved for trial (14 days). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. per Quadell above (time needed to "check") —Reedy 09:10, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate the enthusiasm, but in general a dose of chill pills seems needed here. I'd much rather take a bit of extra time to make sure there are no bugs and that these tasks are all appropriate, etc. rather than racing through the approval process. To all: please slow down a bit. --MZMcBride (talk) 13:39, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- The tasks involved -- fixing double redirects and such -- are pretty standard and well-tested pywikipedia functions. It's just a trial of twenty edits each. I don't think the BAGger was being over-hasty here. – Quadell (talk) 18:50, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Nah, it's mostly not a big deal. I just saw quite a bit of badgering to move this request forward in scrollback on IRC and it seemed excessive. We're not in a race. ;-) --MZMcBride (talk) 18:57, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Trial complete. - Task 4 (Template substitution) is complete, see edits. There are currently no double redirects to fix. Steve Crossin Talk/Help us mediate! 00:38, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Approved. for subtitution, and Approved for trial (5 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. for double redirects. Xclamation point 02:55, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Old tasks
editBoth (1 and 2) (re-)approved, and noted as such on the request pages. —Reedy 08:50, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Interwiki standardization
editPersonally, I think this is something that generally gets done anyways when interwiki bots add or update interwiki links. AWB and other modules do this when performing other tasks. However, I don't think bots should edit pages just to do this. At WP:CHECKWIKI, there are several reports identifying articles where interwikis float around in the text. I think in these cases, it might be warranted to standardize the links, ideally while doing other cleanup.

If the links above don't lead to specific sections, please use the version from the daily update (sections are removed once they are done).
BTW there are few other reports of the WikiProject that are fun to do with AWB or pywikipediabot. -- User:Docu
- Let us know when you've finished the trial for double redirects, and feel free to include interwiki standardization in the bot's tasks if you want to. – Quadell (talk) 00:13, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- Withdrawing double redirects trial as it's obviously not needed, discarding interwiki task. As the subst.py task has been approved, this can be closed as approved for that task only, I assume. Steve Crossin Talk/Help us mediate! 04:19, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Approved. As described above. – Quadell (talk) 19:13, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
