edit- Why only 100 articles? Tim1357 (talk) 10:53, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You seem to often accidentally run this bot on en.wp, when you mean to run it on vi.wp., despite being aware of the issue. This is quite serious, especially since the bot is doing a task which is controversial on en (welcoming users), and it's not approved on en. Unless you can sort this out, approval will not be granted, since the bot would need to be blocked to prevent this. Presuming you can sort this out. Are you aware of the restrictions on interwiki bot linking on en? - Kingpin13 (talk) 10:57, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- It is by accident in the first time when I try to change the parameter in the user-config.py from vi to en to check the function interwiki.py. After stopping, I forget to rechange and I run the welcome.py (at that time, I think this script runs on vi). Now I fix this parameter as
family = 'wikipedia'
mylang = 'vi'
usernames['wikipedia']['en'] = u'TuHan-Bot'
usernames['wikipedia']['vi'] = u'TuHan-Bot'
Since I read carefull I change the request for Manually assisted as I did it before. So the bot just only effects not more than 100 pages. --Tranletuhan (talk) 15:12, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Sorry, let me try to understand this task. This is a manually-operated interwiki bot that is scheduled to make about 100 edits. It will be running interwiki.py only, not welcome.py. You aware of the restrictions on interwiki linking. You will not make edits intended to be made on other wikis here, and this account will only make interwiki edits. Correct? If so, I have no problems with this task and would be willing to speedily approve it. — The Earwig (talk) 23:55, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Yes, this bot only runs interwiki.py.--Tranletuhan (talk) 05:09, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Which namespaces will the bot be editing? And will you be checking each edit before the bot does it? - Kingpin13 (talk) 08:28, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Note, I've blocked this bot since it appears to still be running without approval on en. Once you manage to sort this out I'll lift the block. - Kingpin13 (talk) 13:36, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Editing all name-spaces is not my purpose because it takes time so I just consider to articles (main name-space?), templates and categories. The script provides many options, however, I want to know how it works by trying to change these parameters supervisory. I certainly know how it is importance when I use the bot here, I always check after the bot finishes its work. Thank you for your instructions.--Tranletuhan (talk) 06:12, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Okay, well obviously you don't understand the restrictions on interwiki linking. If you're using interwiki.py you should not edit templates, since it doesn't support the {{Documentation}} template. And why was the bot still editing here after you said it would stop? - Kingpin13 (talk) 08:32, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Misunderstand! Ok, Now it is clear. The bot will edit mainspaces and categories only.--Tranletuhan (talk) 09:12, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Okay, good, so why was the bot still editing here after you said it would stop? - Kingpin13 (talk) 17:21, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- My above explanations don't mean that the bot would stop. If you see that please point out the sentences, which imply "I said the bot would stop", I will recorrect my writing skill.--Tranletuhan (talk) 19:22, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- This bot is currently not approved to edit at all on the English Wikipedia. You said that the reason it had been editing on the English Wikipedia was because of a mistake, and that you had fixed the mistake. But the bot continued to edit here after this. Which is why I blocked it. So it seems that the mistake is not fixed. - Kingpin13 (talk) 19:47, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Anyway, you stop it, you have been doing a good job here. Thank you!--Tranletuhan (talk) 01:57, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- I shouldn't have had to have stopped it. You should have been able to. If you can't prevent the bot from editing on the wrong language wikis, than how can we know that it won't start welcoming users here again? - Kingpin13 (talk) 02:04, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- I already explained detail that I fix the user-fig.py as above which never runs welcome again on en.wiki. --Tranletuhan (talk) 02:10, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Uh huh. So why were you still running the interwiki.py on en.wikipedia? - Kingpin13 (talk) 02:17, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- I didn't know the rule of which the bot had to stop after I requested for approval here. Now I see!--Tranletuhan (talk) 02:27, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- You shouldn't have to stop, you should just not edit at all until it's explicitly stated by a BAG member that you are approved or approved for a trial. Maybe you could have look through WP:BOTPOL? Since you seem to be having a lot of problems understanding our bot policies. - Kingpin13 (talk) 02:34, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- I just think that stop the bot = not edit at all until it will be approved.--Tranletuhan (talk) 02:55, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Misunderstand! Ok, Now it is clear. The bot will edit mainspaces and categories only.--Tranletuhan (talk) 09:12, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kingpin, I would ease up on Tranletuhan. On other language wikis, bots have to run through a 10, 30, or even 50 edit trial before the BRFA is even filed. This isn't the case here, and Tran didn't realize that. (X! · talk) · @163 · 02:54, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- I understand that other wikis have bot ops run trials before requesting approval, but that wasn't the problem, the thing is the edits weren't done purposely, they were an accident, which appeared to continue after Tranletuhan had said they'd stop. What I was worried about was that the bot would start (accidentally) welcoming users again. However, I note now that Tranletuhan said that he had prevented the welcome script on en.wikipedia, but said nothing about the interwiki one. I'll assume this is true, and that the continuation of the interwiki linking was a misunderstanding because of the more strict rules here. Therefore I've marked this as Approved to do interwiki linking on category and mainspace pages. - Kingpin13 (talk) 20:55, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
