Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion/Creating a new criterion

This page lists the items that need to or should be updated when creating a new speedy deletion criterion; many will also need changing if updating an existing criterion. These changes should only be made after consensus has been achieved at WT:CSD or some other similarly trafficked page.

Basic functionality

• Update Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion (duh) and create a shortcut (e.g., WP:G2).
• Update Module:Csdcheck with the new criterion (Note: template-editor protected).
• Create (or move) the appropriate template. Templates are named by letter and number (e.g., Template:Db-g2) with shortcuts redirecting there (e.g., {{db-test}} redirects to {{db-g2}}).
• If appropriate, create (or move) the category (Category:Candidates for speedy deletion as...). Ensure it is applied by the above template and contains the default headers.
• If appropriate, create (or move) the notification template using the shortcut name (e.g., {{db-test-notice}}). Add the notice to Template:Db-notice-multiple. Do the same for the post-deletion notification and Template:Db-deleted-multiple.
• Update MediaWiki:Deletereason-dropdown (Note: fully-protected).
• If appropriate, create (or move) the hangon preload template (e.g., Template:Hangon preload G12) and add it to Template:Db-meta.
• Update {{Sdd4}}

Documentation and helpful displays

• Leave a note for the next issue of the Signpost at Wikipedia talk:Wikipedia Signpost/Newsroom.
• Add a note to the next edition of the Wikipedia:Administrators' newsletter.
• Add (or update) the criterion in the quick reference listing at Category:Candidates for speedy deletion.
• If appropriate, add (or update) the category in Template:CSD/Subcategories and Template:CSD-categories.
• Create corresponding CAT redirect (e.g., CAT:G2).
• Update Template:Speedy deletion templates, Template:Speedy deletion notices, Template:Speedy deletion deleted, and Template:Speedy deletion navbox.
• Update Wikipedia:Template index/Speedy deletion and Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion/Deletion templates.
• Update documentation for the db template and corresponding notices, typically by substing the corresponding template (Template:Db notice doc, or Template:Db deleted doc) or comparing to the text in any other template/notice documentation (requires minor tweaks).
• Update Template:Csdcheck/doc.

• Leave a note at Wikipedia talk:Twinkle or the GitHub repo.
• Make an edit request for MediaWiki:PageTriageExternalDeletionTagsOptions.js.
• Make an edit request for User:Ale jrb/Scripts/csdhelper.js.
