Will the Boat Sink the Water?

My apologies for not logging in; I'm in a bit of a rush and registered a long time ago, so I've forgotten my information.

I can find no page on Wikipedia referring to the best selling book "Will the Boat Sink the Water?" by Chen Guidi and Wu Chuntao. Nor can I find any reference to Chen Guidi and Wu Chuntao. This is an important book that has sold millions of copies and whose authors have won a slew of awards. When I have more time I'll start a page myself if nobody else will but I find it very difficult to believe that nobody else has done so. Shokus Video

I'd like to know whether Shokus Video deserves an article. Some reasons it could be considered notable are: It was founded in 1979 and is still going; It's one of the few companies that still sell pre-recorded VHS tapes; It is mentioned on other websites, such CLG Wiki, along woth usenet posts from the 90's. Hi. :) To meet the notability guidelines on companies, you'd need to demonstrate that Shokus Video has received significant or widespread coverage in secondary sources that are reliable and independent of the store (excluding information solely available on the store website, for instance—these sources may be used for additional information after notability has been established by secondary sources). Usenet posts and other wikis, I'm afraid, wouldn't qualify. Has it been profiled in newspapers or magazines? Directory-style listing, noting opening hours or such like that, wouldn't be helpful; more in-depth coverage is what would be needed here. --Moonriddengirl ^(talk) 00:38, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Looks pretty good. The previous one was deleted with the reason given "(Speedy deleted per (CSD A7), was an article about a company or corporation that didn't assert the importance or significance of its subject.)" in the deletion log. Here, I'm not sure that you have enough in terms of asserting the importance. You have "The firm is one of the only mid-market mergers and acquisitions firms in the Kansas City area accredited by the ..." Well, "one of the only" implies that there are others, so it's not clear how many others there are or how important this one is. It would probably be a good idea to say more about the importance, for example "the largest of only three" (if true) would come across better, in my opinion, than "one of the only".

I assume for the references you would type in the exact information, e.g. date, page number etc. There don't have to be online copies, but if you do find online copies of the articles on the newspapers' websites, a link to them is convenient for the reader, too.

Perhaps you have enough sources to establish notability, especially if the articles are mainly about that company rather than just mentioning it briefly. See Wikipedia:Wikify and Help:Editing for help with formatting. For the first version you can just create it as above, and you or someone else can format it properly afterwards. Hi and sorry for the delayed reply. You may be looking for Articles for creation, but I can offer some advice that will make it more likely that your request will be fulfilled. First off you'll have to verify that Mr. Garfias fits the notability criteria by including citations to reliable sources that are published by third parties. You'll have to explicitly state how he is notable in the article itself and verify the statement by including the citations in your article- the best way to do this is to use footnotes and to properly format them using one of the citation templates. Instead of going to Articles for creation, you could also register for an account| and be able to create the article yourself, however the same things I said about citing reliable sources still applies or the article may wind up being deleted. Charles Sturt University Students' Association

I've seen a few references to CSU Students' Association and the Student Union movement at CSU, but no one has written an article as yet. Writing a properly cited article may be challenging as much of the information that covers the Association is now held in documents internal to CSU. As president of the Student Senate (The body which has replaced the CSUSA governing board, post-VSU) I have access to many of the documents, however I would be an obviously biased source of information. Is there any way a balanced document could be submitted? Who should write such a document? Members of the former Students' Association in co-operation with officers of the University?

It is worth noting that the Charles Sturt University Students' Association (CSUSA) no longer exists as a legal entity. It was dissolved in 2007 based on a Memorandum of Understanding between the CSUSA and the Charles Sturt University. A new representative body consisting of campus SRCs (Orange SRC, Dubbo SRC, Mitchell Students' Guild, Rivcoll SRC & Murray Campus Council) and the Student Senate has been formed. The Rule of Governance for Student Representation at CSU commenced on 17 April 2007.

Hi, and thanks for the query. :) In my general observation of deletion debates, student unions are generally found to be notable within the context of the university (see this, this & this, just as a few examples). If the university article is too long to include enough detail about the student union, a division may be warranted. Otherwise, it may be more appropriate to keep it as a subsection of CSU. Unless length is a particular concern at CSU, a separate article is likely to be held to strict standards of sourcing unrelated to the university or the union to demonstrate stand-alone notability, and you indicate finding those kinds of sources might be a problem.

In terms of who may include such information, people with connection to CSUSA are not forbidden from adding information about CSUSA, either to the parent article or as a stand-alone, but they are strongly discouraged. There are a couple of ways around this. The easiest, for information that would be added to the CSU article, is to write the material and place it in a section on the article's talk page. If the article's talk page doesn't show signs of activity, evaluation & assistance implementing the material can be requested at the talk page of a related Wikiproject, like Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia or Wikipedia:WikiProject Universities. The person who places the material on the CSU talk page can also choose to place {{request edit}} next to the proposed material, with an explanation that because of a conflict s/he needs assistance placing it in the article. A neutral responder should evaluate the material and agree or decline. Personally, I would start with the WikiProject, where responders are likely to be somewhat familiar with the context.

In terms of creating a new article, an unregistered user could write an article that is neutral and sourced and place it for evaluation at "articles for creation", where neutral volunteers will evaluate it and create the article if appropriate. This is only an option for unregistered users. Anyone can request an article at "requested articles", but there is quite a backlog there, and a request may or may not be granted quickly. If I wanted to propose an article on which I had a conflict and felt that I could write the article without the typical COI problems, I would probably put it in a sub user page, or sandbox, and then request evaluation at one of those three pages: CSU, WikiProject Australia or WikiProject Universities. If editors agree that the tone is appropriate, they may be asked to move the subpage into article space. If I went that route, I would be sure after the article was created in article space to note my connection and how the article had come to be created on the article's talk page.

Lee Edward Kirkby

Lee Edward Kirkby, born in 1987 grew up in a non Christian family. After joining Beverley Grammar School from 1998-2005 he became a Chorister at Beverley Minster.

In 2000, Lee became England's youngest Verger and was enrolled in the Church of England's Guild of Vergers.Confirmed into the Church of England in 2001. In 2002 during the year of the Queens Golden Jubilee, he led a procession with HM the Queen and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh in attendence.

In 2006, Lee became a full time student on the BA Honours Degree course with the Centre for Youth Ministry, studying at St Johns theological college, Nottingham. Working as a Youth Minister at Beverley Minster Lee has had many successes. Hi, and Welcome to Wikipedia! :) In order to create an article about that person, you'll need to be able to assert notability per Wikipedia's notability guidelines on biographies, which will mean utilizing reliable secondary sources, like newspaper articles. I don't see anything in that text that I would regard as a clear assertion of "notability" in Wikipedia's sense, although I'm not sure how remarkable it is to be the youngest Verger. Again, reliable sources would demonstrate if the subject meets guidelines.

An article of this sort would be covered by Wikipedia's guidelines on "biographies of living persons", which in part urges editors to be extremely careful not to include any information that isn't sourced, even if it's true, and also reminds us that biographies particularly must be written from a neutral point of view.

If you are able to assemble necessary sources and if your subject meets the notability requirements, you may choose to create the article yourself, although if you are closely associated with the subject (as your username suggests), our conflict of interest guideline and autobiography guideline strongly recommend that you instead consider proposing its creation at requested articles or at a related article or relevant WikiProject.

If you choose to create it yourself, once you have registered, please search Wikipedia first to make sure that an article does not already exist on the subject. Help:Starting a new page should give you all the guidance you need, but you might also look at Wikipedia:Your first article and Wikipedia:How to write a great article. While your article was tagged for deletion for promotional concerns, it was actually deleted under a different criterion, as a copyright violation. The deleting administrator is supposed to have ensured that you were notified of copyright policies, but evidently overlooked this step. Sorry about that! Evidently the text duplicated this. Just to sort of belatedly let you know, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from web sites or printed material without the express permission of the author or copyright holder. When it comes to corporate profiles, they are also generally problematic for promotional concerns, since they typically are written with some degree of "pro-company" slant. Wikipedia's articles must be written from a neutral point of view.

That out of the way, the above does not seem promotional to me to the point that it might be speedily deleted, but there are a few issues I see that could be problematic. First of all, this particular article would be governed by the notability guidelines on companies. The rule of thumb here is noting whether the company has received significant or widespread coverage in secondary sources that are reliable and independent of the company (excluding company PR releases and information solely available on the company website—these sources may be used for additional information after notability has been established by secondary sources). All material must be attributable. The only source I currently see in the article is a primary source, the company website. The article says "EtQ is the leading"--who says? We need an impersonal, unrelated source.

The other issue is a concern about the tone. In addition to unattributed assertions like "is the leading" and "dramatically simplified", we have "Its continuous objective is to automate the various business processes and workflows associated with Quality and ISO standards". As an impersonal source, we are not supposed to be commenting on a company's objective, but only reporting on verifiable fact. We could say, "The company's stated objective is...." We cannot even indirectly write as though we have inside knowledge of such things. After you find sources, you may not longer have this concern. If the article is re-written to reflect what unconnected sources are saying about the company, then these tone issues will probably disappear,
