Wikipedia:Edit farmer

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Edit farmers are quite common across Wikipedia. An edit farmer's main goal is often to acquire as many edits as possible. Some radical ones don't even care about improving the encyclopedia. Common behaviors of edit farmers include:

  • Any or all symptoms of Editcountitis.
  • Calling themselves "WikiGnomes".
  • Not taking the time to write edit summaries.
  • Taking multiple edits for minor (sometimes cosmetic) changes when one would suffice.
  • An extremely high edit to articles created ratio. (In severe cases, in the tens of thousands.)

Strategies

[edit]

Edit farmers have been seen using never-before seen strategies. They go farther than removing spaces at the ends of lines, making useless edits in sandboxes, and having a manual edit counter.

They have even been seen using speech-to-text tools to make edits with their voices and keyboards at the same time.

Confusion with WikiGnomes

[edit]

Unfortunately for WikiGnomes, they can sometimes be confused for edit farmers. Sometimes, edit farmers can even be confused for WikiGnomes. Both of these things are very damaging to WikiGnomes' reputations.
