The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), enacted by Congress in 2011, is a comprehensive update of federal food safety laws. It addresses preventable foodborne illness, monitors the global food supply chain, and ensures human and animal food safety. Rather than a system that responds to foodborne illness, FSMA works to prevent it. Following its enactment, the FDA created seven comprehensive new regulations to enforce the law. These regulations touch on nearly every aspect of the food supply chain.
- We will start the day with remarks from Paul Wester, Director of the National Agricultural Library, and follow with a panel of guests who will speak about the history, context, and future of FSMA. Following the speakers, we will hold a training session for those new to - or need a refresher on - Wikipedia editing. A worklist of FSMA topics and pages will be provided, including growing, harvesting, packing, and holding of produce; mandatory controls for food facilities; and monitoring and corrective action of intentional adulteration of food. (detailed schedule below)
- Wikipedia is an openly editable resource, meaning that you can improve the quality and accuracy of Wikipedia entries. As one of the web’s most visited reference sites, Wikipedia serves as a starting point for many individuals looking to learn about art, history, and science.
- During this training, attendees of all experience levels will learn the basics of how to edit Wikipedia by updating articles related
