Avisos of Germany

edit

This topic comprises all of the avisos built by or for Germany (broadly defined), including ships operated by the navies of Prussia, the North German Confederation, the Wilhelmine empire, and Nazi Germany. All articles are GA or higher, and most have legs for FA, so eventually this will be upgraded to a Featured Topic, but that's probably years away. Thanks to all who take the time to review the topic. I am nominating Kanye West's studio albums to become a collective good topic because even after they have all been brought to GA-status by other editors and myself, I have continuously worked on the albums to help make improvements where possible. "What's your life like?" Looks like West has answered this question about himself for the past 16 years, releasing 11 mostly critically-acclaimed studio albums. The albums have also been generally praised by the public including the editors on this site, while West's commercial success has been consistently high! --K. • I was invited to comment and am proud to have been a part of this admirable testament to a major artist's work, as well as the contributions of several major editors over the years. I commend Kyle Peake for having the vision to create this topic. However, while it does appear to fulfill the criteria for good article topics, I am uncertain whether this topic will be able to retain its status with the forthcoming West album's article, Donda (album), currently in future status. The criteria page's section on retention allows for a grace period of three months after the topic expands. So my only question is a matter of interpretation and anticipation. isento (talk) 08:47, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Isento: That is a very good point to make thank you, though I had a discussion about this with another user and we came to the agreement that it is fine to nominate this as a GT while Donda: With Child is pending release since the retention period will not begin for the GT until the album has been released – to elaborate further, I will be willing to dedicate time to expanding the article when the album is out and will likely be able to have brought it to GA status within less than three months. How do you feel now after reading these comments? --K. Peake 10:07, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm not familiar enough with Kanye's body of work or the critical reception and understanding of the album Jesus Is Born to have an opinion about whether it's really a "Kanye West album" or not; but, its presence in that list and template indicates that other editors here have established a consensus that it is. If you don't think it belongs in that list and template, then you should probably take it up with the editors who've worked on those items, but I'll point out that (as your proposal here makes clear) Kanye West albums discography is a featured list, so its contents represent the consensus of a lot of reviewers after a lot of scrutiny. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 16:08, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Bryanrutherford0: Yeah that is a reasonable point and this being a GTC without Jesus Is Born may cause divisive opinions on Wiki, so it is advisable to wait and see what other editors say. However, do you see any issues with the albums that are included here? --K. Peake 17:05, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment – Huge congrats to Kyle and everyone else for putting so much work into bringing this topic back up to standard. Since WTT and KSG are included, it does bring up a valid point as to whether or not Jesus Is Born should be included. I don't know much about JIB, but WTT and KSG are both co-credited to West directly, and since JIB is solely credited to the Sunday Service Choir, to me it doesn't seem to qualify as a Kanye West studio album, even though West was involved. That's just my two cents. – zmbro (talk) 17:22, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Zmbro: Nice pick up on Bryanrutherford0's earlier comments there, though do you think a discussion should be held on the talk pages for West's albums discography and his template as well around whether or not the album really counts as one of his studio albums? Also, are you willing to place your support behind this GTC? --K. Peake 18:03, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Igordebraga: Thank you, it is an honor to have continued your great work and how do you feel about West's later releases that I promoted to GA status; are you a fan of his more recent output as well as the older stuff? --K. Peake 17:54, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not that familiar with this work, just decided to renominate College Dropout for the GA because the main contributor quit Wikipedia, and since that completed the topic pushed it into here. But some of his recent output certainly shows a man losing his marbles - who in their right mind would make something like "I Love It"? igordebraga 18:14, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment I appreciate the efforts of the nominator, Kyle, and other editors in contributing to a vast catalog of perhaps the most critically acclaimed (and most controversial) artist of contemporary music. I have the same query regarding the exclusion of Jesus Is Born from this GTC. Since the article is included in the featured list Kanye West albums discography, and in the template {{Kanye West}}, that West is not a member of the group is not a valid reason for its exclusion. It seems a consensus must have been reached that it is an album of West, given that he is the record's executive producer after all. Probably a discussion regarding whether JIB rightfully belongs to Kanye West discography or not should have been conducted before this GTC. (|talk) 05:45, 27 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It is not a Kanye West album per se, and I have added a footnote to the discography article with citations from a few reliable sources explaining so (Kanye_West_albums_discography#cite_ref-69). isento (talk) 09:06, 30 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@: After Isento has opined about Jesus Is Born above following on from my earlier comments, do you still not wish to support or have you changed your viewpoint now? --K. Peake 21:18, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I am happy to support this GTC. Brilliant work (on a side note, please don't find it surprising that someone who listens to Taylor Swift like me can listen--and actually enjoy--Kanye West's music), (talk) 02:44, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That is amazing to hear and I was initially anxious to ask for your opinion of West due to this, but seeing both sides is a great value! --K. Peake 09:49, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Each episode from the third season of The Office has qualified for GA. -- Some Dude From North Carolinawanna talk? 21:19, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Bilorv: Links have been fixed but the episode # issue was kept the same per hidden comment on "Phyllis' Wedding". Some Dude From North Carolinawanna talk? 17:12, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Some Dude From North Carolina: they can't both be the fifteenth episode according to the same numbering scheme. The season page says "Phyllis' Wedding" is sixteenth. The series of articles needs to use a consistent numbering scheme one way or the other. — Bilorv (talk) 17:16, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
