I am nominating this for featured article because... the article has recently been improved and promoted to GA status, and I believe it meets FA criteria. Winjay (talk) 10:47, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Comments:
- The article suffers from WP:RECENTISM in the History section. The WP:UNDUE details of the 20th century are given, while too less is given about ancient and medieval history
- "Prior to Islam, the people in this region... " has no dates. Sometime like "Prior to Islam's rise in the 7th century" is needed to place the historical event on a timeline.
- User:AreJay is the largest contributor. Has he been consulted?
- Sort the 6 disambig links [2]

This article is not ready for FAC; I suggest a Peer review and a reassessment of its good article status. On a very quick glance, I found:
- Missing puncutation, missing spaces, copyedit needed: According to Fedel Handhal, researcher in the history and culture of the UAE, the word Dubai may have come from the word Daba (a derivative of Yadub), which means to creep; the word may be a reference to the flow of Dubai Creek inland, while the poet and scholar Ahmad Mohammad Obaid traces it through the same word, but in its meaning of locust [17] ... and Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry(centre)
- Mixed use of WP:DASHes-- faulty emdashes, endashes and even hyphens
- WP:OVERLINKing.
- Copyedit needs: " ... reported that prostitution in clubs are tolerated ... "
- WP:MOSDATE issues: ... a major downturn in 2008/2009 ...
- Short stubby sections and listiness in "Transportation"
- WP:LAYOUT breaches (See also: Abra in "Waterways" for example)
- WP:ACCESS issues (see "Culture" and "Sports", order of items)
- Unformatted citations throughout, sample: AMEinfo - Burj Dubai strike continues
- Many sources of dubious reliability
- Inconsistent citation formatting
- WP:MOSDATE#Precise language, "Today, Dubai has emerged as a global city (ranking number 27 ... "
- WP:MOSNUM, sample: Dubai appoints 8 members in two-term periods to the Federal National Council (FNC) of the UAE, the supreme federal legislative body.[42]
- Missing conversions, sample: ... will have 70 kilometers of track ...
- What are ddlphins?
- Curly quotes need to be audited throughout.
- WP:FN fixes (notes after punctuation)
- Center or centre, which version of English is the article using?
These are samples only; the issues are throughout.
