Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/The President (novel)/archive1
I'm nominating this article for featured article because it has recently passed the GA process, it seems to be of superior quality and has an active project behind it: see Wikipedia:WikiProject Murder Madness and Mayhem. Wassupwestcoast (talk) 20:40, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
Withdrawn nomination. Cheers! Wassupwestcoast (talk) 22:07, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- Notes: reference formatting needs extensive cleanup, and right off the bat I see numerous unreliable sources like IMDB and several partisan, unreliable Venezuelan sources, including a possible copyvio from a partisan, biased source of LA Times. HTML is the default and doesn't need to be specified in cite templates. The article is going to need a lot of MoS cleanup; you may want to work with Epbr123 (talk · contribs) or someone knowledgeable in MoS to help correct the deficiencies. I notice this article hasn't been to peer review. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 20:51, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- I am not sure why this article has been nominated. The WikiProject mentioned above is still in the middle of working on it. Substantial revision, copy editing and MOS work needs to be done on it. See the talk page of the article. I think that a withdrawal is in order here. Awadewit (talk) 21:05, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- According to articlestats, there are several significant editors involved here, and Wassupwestcoast is far down the list; if the principle editors agree they need more time, this FAC can be withdrawn. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:15, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

- Oppose Numerous criterion three violations:
- Image:Asturias.jpg has no fair use rationale for this article (see WP:NFCC#10C and WP:RAT), which may be moot as image does not appear to significantly contribute to our understanding (see NFCC#8). How does an image of the author help us in any way to understand the book? The image is indeed appropriate for the author’s article, but not here.
- Image:Cabrera.jpg – Licensing information is entirely inadequate. The current tag asserts that the author has released the image into the public domain, yet provides no author or source information. Without this information (User:Puro chapin cannot reasonably be expected to be the author), we cannot be reasonably assured that the license is factual. As Cabrera died in 1923, it is very likely to be in the public domain; this, however, needs to be better researched and, if indeed true, properly tagged.
- Image:Juan jose arevalo1.jpg has no fair use rationale at all (NFCC#10C and WP:RAT) which, again, is moot as image does not appear necessary to facilitate our understanding (NFCC#8). Yes, Arévalo’s liberal government allowed the book to be published; how is his image germane to this information? How does seeing his image significantly contribute to our understanding of the book?
- Image:El senor presidente 3rded.jpg – WP:NFCC#3A requires “As few non-free content uses as possible are included in each article and in Wikipedia as a whole”. What does this image provide above what is already provided by the image in the infobox? Why is the image of another language's cover significant? ЭLСОВВОLД talk 21:19, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- Withdraw this. I've been helping out and it's not ready. Wrad (talk) 21:32, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- If the significantly principle editors agree it's not ready, I'll withdraw; see articlestats. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:39, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- The thing is that the significant editors are very new to wikipedia and honestly don't know. Wrad (talk) 21:42, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, Wrad, I have to abide by WP:AGF, and I only withdraw FACs if a significantly principle editor states that it's not ready and requests withdrawal, per talk page precedent established here. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:44, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- Withdraw. I would like to thanks Wassupwestcoast for his/her enthusiasm, but as the person who is coordinating Murder, Madness, and Mayhem, and without knowing the proper protocol, can I suggest that this nomination is withdrawn. I'd also note that the three people charged with editing this article for MMM (who are Mfreud, Katekonyk, and Eecono) would undoubtedly appreciate any assistance that other, more experienced, editors might be able to provide. This is the first article to which they have contributed on Wikipedia. They (and I) will definitely need help when it comes to the intricacies of the Manual of Style, image licensing, etc. We are benefiting from the aid of the FA-Team, and do hope to put this article in to FAC within the next couple of weeks. Any help, but perhaps particularly technical help, would be much appreciated. We recognize we have some way to go, and so, again, I suggest withdrawal. --jbmurray (talk|contribs) 21:56, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
OK, I will withdraw now. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 22:08, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
