List of Bandai Namco video game franchises (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

I've tried to get this page nominated for FL status a while back, however it has failed for a number of reasons, mainly with the list not being able to pass WP:V. After quite a bit of time revamping the page and making large-scale improvements, I've decided to try and renominate the article again. All corrections were based on those brought up by other editors in the first FL nomination page. Here's what's been done to clean up the page:

  1. Table has been completely redone (thank you Dissident93), with franchises listed in a greyed-out column to distinguish them from the other columns. Licensed series are now highlighted in yellow to indicate they are not an original creation by Bandai Namco. The "Platform" section has been cut entirely, instead replaced with columns listing the first and latest releases.
  2. All entries present are reliably sourced, and all of these prove they are an actual series and not a one-off title. The articles themselves are also dedicated to these games/series and don't simply reference these franchises in articles for other companies' games, as was the case before.
  3. Minor edits have been done to the lead, simply removing outdated information.

  • Logo missing alt text
    • I'm not entirely sure what you mean about this, maybe you could be specific? Thanks. nvm, figured it out. Done.
  • Why does the second paragraph have only 2 refs, and on top of that, in only the first sentence?
    • Fixed.
  • I'd personally put the refs into their own col – seems cluttered next to the title
    • Done.
  • The Idolmaster should be sorted by "Idolmaster" and not "The", as well as .hack by "Hack" and not the period, per WP:Sorting (should be the case for all cols not just the first)
    • Series is in fact ".hack" and not just "hack", as shown in the series article. Although I guess that would make it the first entry in the list instead of towards the middle.
  • You should probably archive all these website refs
    • Dissident93 beat me to this, but this has been fixed.
  • Dates aren't consistent, some are YYYY-MM-DD, others are Day Month Year
    • Fixed.
  • Toolbox shows tons of blue links, a couple of green links, and one dead link since 2012
    • Fixed.
  • Ref 2, 3 missing website
    • Fixed.
  • Ref 6, 40 missing access date
    • Fixed.
  • Almost all these refs are missing publication dates
    • Fixed.
  • Ref 7, 8 missing author
    • Fixed.
  • Ref 11, 27 has 2 random commas in the front
    • Fixed.
  • Ref 16 is just a URL and a website (that's not italicized)
    • I assume you mean 18? Fixed.
  • Ref 17 has 2 asterisks, a comma, and a period before the title
    • No it doesn't. Are you referring to Ref 23?
    • Found it, fixed.
  • IGN shouldn't be in italics
    • Fixed.
  • Ref 40 isn't properly cited (the entire thing is in Japanese)
    • Fixed.
  • A lot of these websites should be linked
    • Done.
  • I'm personally not sure if using websites that are entirely in Japanese for an English-language list is considered ok
    • As far as I know, Japanese-language sources are perfectly allowed as long as they confirm the information it is sourced to.

Unfortunately, I'm going to oppose this for now. It still way too many problems, specifically in its references. Once these things are resolved, I'll retract my oppose, but for right now, it's still not FL worthy sadly. – zmbro (talk) 22:09, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have also added a very short (heh) short description. TheAwesomeHwyh 15:26, 26 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Also, you mentioned earlier that you added alt text for the logo, but it didn't have any, so I added it myself. If you're using Firefox, you can check if a image has alt text by typing in "about:config" in the adress bar, then searching for "permissions.default.images" and set it to 2. That should turn off all images in the entire browser so that they will just display as alt text. To turn them back on, just set it back to 1. I have attached a photo of what the page "Go Vacation" looks like without images, for your own reference. (I actualy only learned how to do this yesterday, I didn't expect it to come in handy this quickly!) I am not sure how to do this in other web browsers, sorry. TheAwesomeHwyh 16:07, 26 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You can also just use @Dispenser:'s alt text viewer, but I prefer to just turn off images. But, I think im going on a bit of a tangent here :p. TheAwesomeHwyh 16:16, 26 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Could you find a better source for this, though? The Wired article discusses Go Vacation and simply mentions the We Ski series, which would make it fail WP:V. Namcokid47 (talk) 20:01, 26 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
What? But the Wired article says that Go Vacation is the third in the series. "After a little play I realized why it all looked so familiar: It's the sequel to one of my favorite Wii games, We Ski. This game (and its followup We Ski and Snowboard) [...]" I don't see how that fails WP:V. TheAwesomeHwyh 21:42, 26 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

edit
  • One of the lead sentences still refers to the company as plural ("They are best known for their video game franchises...") whereas the rest of the paragraph is singular. Other than that, refs 11 and 38 need archiving, but I think that's it; once those are sorted, I'd be happy to support. Great work. – Rhain 03:22, 19 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

edit
  • I did some fixes on the table already
  • Please stick to one date format in the refs, I would suggest 'Month Day, Year'
  • All non english ref titles need to be translated, use script-title=ja: and trans-title=
  • Ref 16, 29, 41, 45, 58: Refs should not use all caps, just type it out normally
  • Are there maybe more pictures that could be used? --Lirim | Talk 19:52, 26 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but I don't really agree with any of these proposed changes. I don't see where the refs suddenly use a different date format (maybe point to a few examples?) The capitalization is also part of the sources' name, it isn't an error on my end. I also don't see why we need more pictures in the article aside from the Bandai Namco logo itself (what is the purpose? Where would they even go?). I also don't think the Japanese ref names need to be translated, as long as they confirm the information they're sourced to I think it's fine. See MOS:CAPS; Every title of ref should be understable for everyone; I mistaken this article for another one, date formats should be consistent-they are here! Pictures are always good; this was a question if more would be available, maybe for the biggest Bandai series or smth like that. Not something what needs to be added.--Lirim | Talk 20:35, 26 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think just the Bandai Namco vector image is fine. I also took care of the capitalization errors you mentioned. Namcokid47 (Contribs) 22:37, 26 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
