I am opening my first featured content nomination because after another editor gave it a copy-edit, I think it meets all the criteria. This list owes a lot to Staxringold's excellent List of Olympic medalists in baseball, on which this list is modelled. Though the two sports took vastly different routes to the Olympic program, they suffered identical fates. I look forward to any and all comments.   • Support Looks very good to me. The only thing is I somewhat like my language "after which the IOC removed it" in the first paragraph of the lead as opposed to your ", the IOC having removed it from", but that's quite minor. You're quite lucky, you have a picture of the most successful athlete. I dug around for Pedro Luis Lazo, but even what I could find on Flickr was licensed (and the owners couldn't release them). Comments. Mostly minor issues, so once you fix them you have my support:
  • The Manual of Style allow lead images to have a width of up to 300px;
  • "On December 8, 1989 the International Olympic Committee..." — Add a comma after the year;
  • Reference #2 has no content whatsoever;
  • "Softball was contested at each subsequent Games through 2008, the IOC having removed it from the list of Olympic sports in 2005 effective in the 2012 Summer Olympics" — In my opinion, the phrasing after "2008" could be improved somehow;
  • "In the 2000 tournament the United States..." — Add a comma after "tournament";
  • "Sydney games" — Capitalize games, as it refers to the Olympics. Also, remove the extra period mark after the ref tag;
  • "At the 2004 Summer Olympics the United States..." — Comma after "Olympics". Avoid the repetition "won... winning";
  • "The IOC voted on July 8, 2005..." — Comma after "2005";
  • "The international governing bodies of softball, baseball rugby sevens,..." — Forgot a comma after "baseball";
  • Pity you can't find another more general softball-related image to place in the lead, so you could have the image with Laura Berg in the medal leaders section.

Thanks for being so through- other than reference 2, which I discussed above, and the images, I've worked on everything else. I have two more somewhat related images available, both of multiple medalists, but not people who appear on the "Athlete medal leaders" sessions. Unfortunately, I don't have anything more general that's truly relevant, no team shots, nothing from a game in progress, etc. under a free licence.   • "a sport formerly contested at the Summer Olympic Games." not really, this could be misleading to make people think it was only played in the olympics...
  • Added "that was" to ry and keep anyone from thinking that.
  • "won their only Olympic medal in softball in 1996, the silver medal" perhaps "won their only Olympic medal in softball, a silver, in 1996"
  • Good idea, fixed.
  • "the United States was favored" singular usage vs "the United States won their second " plural usage. Be consistent throughout.
  • Since the first, singular use was the odd man out, I made it plural.
  • "only allowing one run" what does this mean to a non-expert?
  • Wikilinked to the relevant article. I think the idea is familiar enough that that should suffice.
  • "teams.[15][5] " can you make those in numerical order?
  • Done.
  • Why are Ward and Fernandez's images different widths? I think we should be using the upright parameter for these, shouldn't we?
  • They were always the same width in Firefox, I've got them having the same width in IE and my iPad now, as well; the only formats I've got available to check.
  • Nope; I also linked the Washington Post for consistency.
  • Ref 9 has mixed date format, ref 10 has different format from all other refs. Consistent dates in refs please.
  • Ouch. Thought I'd gotten all of those. Fixed.

  • "not having lost an international competition" - I'm not sure about the "not having lost" thing here, just seems like an awkward turn of phrase to my ears.
  • Took a stab at a complete rewrite of that clause.
  • Better, though "they had participated in" now needs to be "in which they participated"
  • "Living up to expectations the United States team won the gold medal." - A comma is needed after "expectations" if this sentence order is maintained, but it seems awkward. I suggest The United States team lived up to expectations by winning the gold medal.
  • Good idea, implemented
  • "The Americans only lost one game"
  • Done
  • "combined 41 to 8" - 41 to 8 what? Runs? Points? Innings? I know, but others might not.
  • Added the word run, and since that was now the first usage of that term, moved the wikilink up there.
  • "and the Australian team bronze" - comma after
  • Done
  • "three gold and one silver medal" - "three" and "one" are both modifying a singular noun here, perhaps re-word.
  • I tried something different, that involved a re-write of that sentence and the one immediately before.
  • "Three Australian players also won four medals, one silver and three bronze" - comma splice, replace comma with colon
  • Done
  • Medal leaders table needs all en-dashes in ranges.
  • Done
