Original - Nuclear weapon test Mike (yield 10.4 Mt) on Enewetak Atoll. The test was part of the Operation Ivy. Mike was the first hydrogen bomb ever tested, an experimental device not appropriate for use as a weapon.

The URL listed in the original upload is no longer valid but I found a new location at [1]. Our version doesn't seem to have been altered from the original. There are other photos in the same collection that don't have the darkness issue.--RDBury (talk) 12:46, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
According to the article, the detonation was fairly early in the morning. Sunrise may not have taken full effect yet, and the light pulse from the blast may account for the contrast.
