Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Scotland Yard delist
I doubt this picture would pass today, as it's little more than a picture of a sign. Doesn't seem striking or informative. - Night Gyr (talk/Oy) 14:34, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

This delisting is an interesting example of decisions being made by members who appear not to be familiar with the subject of the photograph. "Sign blocks building" is a most extraordinary comment. As the opening paragraph of the article on Scotland Yard points out, the sign is a famous London icon. Every UK news broadcast about Scotland Yard features almost exactly the shot depicted here, largely because the building itself is very dull, and the sign outside it is its most distinctive feature. The photograph may not be large enough and may have other technical inadequacies but it nevertheless constitutes the definitive image, not just of Scotland Yard, but of the Metropolitan Police as an institution.
