Natalie Green (User:Petropoxy (Lithoderm Proxy) has been Wikipedian in Residence at the Cincinnati Art Museum (CAM) since February 2022. The project announcement can be found here.
The project aims to add high quality articles to Wikipedia relating to the CAM's collection and history, and to do so in a way that bridges gaps in Wikipedia's coverage. This has been a small, targeted project, focusing on depth rather than breadth in order to make full use of the CAM's specialized resources and expertise.
The basic workflow of the project has been as follows:
- A list of target articles was identified (see below) based on the criteria of notability, diversity, and usefulness of CAM's resources to the subject.
- The list was presented to CAM curators for feedback
- An article is written either from said list, or on a topic that emerged during research, making full use of CAM's library, archives, and research database access
- The article is reviewed by the appropriate curator / archivist - it is checked for accuracy and non-binding feedback is offered
- The CAM donates high quality images related to the article
- The article is nominated for Did You Know and featured on CAM's social media, highlighting the collaboration
Original list of target articles
editDr. Ainsley M. Cameron, curator of South Asian Art, Islamic Art and Antiquities, provided advice and references that were instrumental in figuring out how to diversify the targeted articles in a way that could use CAM's resources to help plug gaps in Wikipedia's coverage of non-western art.
