This event attracted press attention from Lesley Riddoch, and was attended by a number of creative professionals whose work intersected with that of Barbour. It was highly effective in terms of engaging the Glasgow Wiki community, including three established but lapsed volunteers.

Objectives & outcomes

WMUK	Museums Galleries Scotland
G1: Develop Open Knowledge	G1.1 help Scottish museums increase the quality of the existing open knowledge surrounding their collections. G1.2 assist museums to make more open knowledge available through various channels and projects, G1.3 work specifically with the Recognised Collections to make more open knowledge and images available through Wikipedia and their own websites licence free.
G2a: Develop, involve & engage WMUK volunteers	G2a.1 encourage and assist museum curators to become competent WMUK volunteers. G2a.2 assist museum curators to help share their expert collections knowledge with other WMUK volunteers. G2a.3 Work with other Scottish voluntary organisations to involve them where relevant in open data projects taking place in Scottish museums and galleries.
G3: Reduce barriers to accessing open knowledge	G3.1 we will improve awareness of the benefits of open knowledge through education within the Scottish museum sector. G3.2 we will actively work with a range of partners including the Scottish Government to help inform, develop and deliver a strategic action plan for responsible use of open data in Scottish museums.
G5: Develop, support and engage with other Wikimedia & Open Knowledge Communities	G5.1 participate and encourage membership to the Scottish DigitaI Transformation Network. G5.2 encourage partnership projects between Scottish museums to release their metadata licence free through API or other sources.

Developing Open Knowledge

Glasgow Women's Library were announced as the newest Recognised Collection of National Significance to Scotland in December 2015. We were pleased to be able to borrow resources from them for the Mary Barbour Editathon, and discussions are ongoing as to a way in which we might be able to work with them further. Crafty Reader has suggested a project using the Mapping Monuments projects on their website, a crowdsourced map of monuments to women in Scotland.
Mary Barbour editathon was a success, attracting press & social media attention, which is being followed up by the press officer at MGS. The article itself was doubled, two new articles were created, and new images added to Commons.
Modern Scottish Women editathon was also a success, with 6 good-quality new and 2 improved articles.
Conversations are ongoing with Orkney Museum and Groam House Museum regarding working with their Recognised Collections over the next four months.
The presentation made to the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh Science Club before Christmas will hopefully pay dividends, with conversations ongoing about their store of images.

Develop, involve and engage WMUK volunteers

Meetings were held and conversations ongoing with curators & librarians from the National Galleries of Scotland Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art concerning image licensing and more generally working with Wiki in the run up to the Modern Scottish Women editathon on 23 January. Conversations at a senior level about openly licensing images are about to occur and I have offered my assistance with any advocacy work.
Some long-term but lapsed volunteers have been re-energised by the Mary Barbour editathon, and I hope to develop the Glasgow community in particular over the coming months.
Conversations with the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art are ongoing, concerning future activity.
I attended the Volunteer Engagement training day at the WMUK offices in the first week of January. This has led to some interesting conversations about how best to develop the volunteer base in Scotland, and the use of the Scot-Wiki mailing list.

Reducing barriers to accessing open knowledge

I have made contact with the Records Manager of East Lothian council and we are in discussion about how we might make their open data sets available through Wiki projects.
I will be speaking at the Digital Learning Network on the 22nd March on the topic "Changing Culture: How digital learning can change an organisation"
I will be presenting a workshop at the University of Glasgow's Learning & Teaching conference on 12 April. I was asked to submit a proposal following my presentation at the Universitas21 conference, held at the University of Edinburgh last year.

Developing, supporting & engaging with other Wikimedia & Open Knowledge communities

I attended the Open Data Edinburgh Meetup on 19 February at the National Library of Scotland, making contact with some individuals working in training local authority and other public bodies around open data issues.
Very happy indeed to welcome our new resident Ewan to the University of Edinburgh, and help him to get into the swing of things.

In addition to these event-based activities, I am developing an enriched monitoring & evaluation framework for the 12 month Summary & Reflections report, and for the next phase of the project running from February - June 2016.

Project extension

Although we were unable to secure 12 month full time funding for the residency, we have been able to agree a short extension, to the beginning of June. I'm delighted to be able to take forward at least some of the work planned with Orkney & Groam.
