Developing Open Knowledge
- The resident visited Groam House Museum early in the month to meet with and make a presentation to the Board of Management concerning opening the collection, including items from the George Bain Collection, which is a Recognised Collection of National Significance to Scotland. The meeting was successful, and work has continued with the curator. The resident will return in May to provide training to staff and volunteers & assist with content upload. The resident will also work with the museum to develop a digital licensing policy.
- Following evaluation work done for the end of the initial 12 month period of the residency, one organisation had indicated that they would be interested in developing a WiR role. They were put in touch with WMUK head office.
Develop, involve and engage WMUK volunteers
- The resident met with Ewan, WiR at the University of Edinburgh and Gill Hamilton, Digital Access Manager at the National Library of Scotland to discuss future 2016 Wiki events in Edinburgh concerning Edinburgh Gothic and Robert Louis Stevenson.
Reducing barriers to accessing open knowledge
- The resident met with staff from the Fruitmarket Gallery about possible future collaborations and possibilities for open working in the organisation.
Developing, supporting & engaging with other Wikimedia & Open Knowledge communities
- A presentation was made at the University of Glasgow Learning & Teaching conference (similar in style to the presentation made at the Universitas21 conference) about the use of Wiki in the University Classroom.
- A presentation was made at the #OER16 conference, and the resident met with and assisted the other WiRs, WMUK CEO and Trustee representative in a range of Wiki-related activity during the conference. Further information is available on the conference website.
- A presentation was made at the Edinburgh Digital Meetup, concerning "open on a shoestring".
- The resident continued to collaborate with other residents and WMUK head office on volunteer development in Scotland.
