The Museo nazionale della scienza e della tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci in Milano contributes to Wikipedia with quality contents and items for other Wikimedia projects. To facilitate this collaboration, the Museum hosts as Wikipedia:GLAM/Wikipedian in Residence a consultant of Wikimedia Italia.
The institution
editThat of Milan is the largest science museum in Italy with collections covering different technical and scientific areas, as well as art collections. The museum preserves, studies and interprets the historical heritage to make it accessible to the public, in particular through informal education methodologies.
History
editIn 2015 Wikimedia Italia has signed an agreement with ICOM Italia ICOM (Italian national committee of the International Council of Museums): thanks to this agreement, Wikimedia Italia and ICOM Italia have issued a call to select museums that could host for some months Wikipedia:GLAM/Wikipedian in Residence.
Among the participants in the competition it is the National Museum was chosen science and technology, which adheres to ICOM Italy. Wikimedia Italia selected with a call[1] also the Wikipedian in residence Marco Chemello, who resided at the Museum in the period March-May 2016.
Objectives
editThe museum will donate to Wikipedia content and quality images to be published on the Wikimedia Commons with Creative Commons BY-SA. Sharing content from its collections and archives (images, text, bibliographic sources), the museum intends to contribute to the improvement of Wikipedia. The museum will also ensure free entry for members of the Wikimedia Italy.
