Overview A meeting will be held at the National Railway Museum in York on 22 June 2011, at the suggestion of Wikimedia UK and the invitation of the NRM. The NRM is contemplating working with Wikipedia, initially by adding new and improving existing articles as a component of the development of new exhibits. The genesis of the NRM's interest is, in part, the Brooklyn Museum's Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists, 1958–1968: WikiPop exhibition, which improved 14 and added 11 new articles to Wikipedia, presenting the 25 from their own website as a wiki-resource supporting the exhibition. The work was undertaken by Rebecca Shaykin, who blogged about the preparation, the actuality and the results. The meeting will respond to the NRM's expression of interest, and will seek to put in place whatever support is required by NRM. The opportunity will also be taken to present and discuss the Wikimedia GLAM initiative with a view to fostering ongoing cooperation between the NRM and Wikipedia; and this being the case, it's likely that representatives of other museums will attend the meeting. Although 22 June is approaching quickly, planning the meeting is still pretty much at the start. Not least, we have a date but no timings; neither have we a finalised agenda, nor have we worked out who will present what. It is anticipated that the meeting will be limited to circa 24 people including those from the NRM and other museums. Some 4-6 wikipedians involved in meeting planning are slated to attend. The involvement of additional wikipedians (e.g. interested in railways, the NRM, museums and/or GLAM) will be sought by no later than Wednesday 1 June, giving three weeks notice of the event. Registration page Please register at wmuk:National_Railway_Museum Draft agenda The final shape of the meeting is still under discussion, but is likely to cover the following areas: Presentation of Wikipedia - what it is, why it's important, what it offers to museums, how it can be used to advantage Presentation of & discussion on GLAM initiative & process, options and case studies Discussion of potential NRM collaborations Tutorials on the Wikipedia content addition and editing process Possibly, some form of Backstage Pass event It's most likely that the morning will be presentations and discussion, leading on to break-out sessions, tutorials and suchlike in the afternoon.
