Wikipedia:GLAM/UNIPD/Carbonate Sedimentology

In the course Carbonate Sedimentology, academic year 2018-2019, held by professor Nereo Preto, students can create or improve Wikipedia articles about specific disciplinary content.

This project is a part of it:Progetto:Coordinamento/Università we are leading in the Wikipedia in Italian, fully supported by the community. The same university has other courses running with Wikipedia.

What we do

20th of November 2018 workshop

During this workshop, we introduce Wikipedia as a learning tool and his essential guidelines.

• Presentation of the project and of the specific activity;
• How to respect the copyright for all contents (text and images)
• 5 pillars
• How to cite cite sources (Help:Footnotes and Help:Find sources)
• How to edit a Wikipedia page:
  • How to use the test page (Sandbox)
  • How to structure an article (Help:Section)

Hint: Wikipedia:VisualEditor

To enable Visual Editor:

1. login with your username on Wikipedia in English
2. go to your preferences Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing
3. unckeck the option "Temporarily disable the visual editor while it is in beta"
4. in the "editing mode" menu, choose "Show me both editor tabs".
5. press "Save" button and the bottom of the page.
6. reload page(s).

Articles worked in small groups need to be developed collectively in the sandbox of one of the members (group leader) before publishing it into Wikipedia. All participants should contribute individually to the contents (all edits are recorded in the page history).

At the moment, there is a page on stromatolites which content, however, overlaps with the concept of microbialite; there is then a stub on thrombolite. Both these articles may need to have a link to microbialite once the page is created. There is no page for leiolite. - User:Matteo guelfi/sandbox
• Lumignano, with a special care to the geology of the Lumignano area. There is an article about Longare, of which county Lumignano is a part.
• Vicenza stone. This article is present in the Italian wikipedia, but it is missing in the English one. See [1].
