Sometimes it helps to be a bit more grateful towards volunteers who are doing a good job. The original image was 169 KB. If you crop that image to one eigth of the original, you get about 23 KB. Vysotsky (talk) 21:31, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Shshshsh: I put this picture in the infobox. In my opinion, its quality is sufficient for this purpose. Trying to zoom in is pointless as it only leads to a blur. It cannot be done in an easy way, although a graphics program was described that provided such a possibility, unfortunately I do not have access to it. @Carnby: The best image in my opinion is the one that is now on Commons. The image you propose for color replacement is probably not the best copy used in printing, where there were limitations in color rendering. PawełMM (talk) 08:29, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with PawelMM here. The original Commons version has a better gradation of color and more balanced shadows. It is also, given what I know of the neoclassical style, likely a better representation of the actual values of the original. The greenish tint to the (nominally warm) shadows in the adjusted version is a dead giveaway that it's been modified, and the saturation on the figure and apples would look very garish on any medium other than a computer monitor.

It's important to note that lighting is important, not just in creating paintings, but also in displaying them. A print-out of the Commons version, when illuminated by natural light would look much closer to the more saturated version as seen on screen than they do when both viewed on screen. A print-out of the more saturated version would look almost cartoonish in its use of color, and be missing quite a bit of detail. Happy (Slap me) 12:33, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe so. We have a higher resolution version and they're both derived from the same photograph. Even the glare on the glaze is as close to identical as two differently-sized images could be. Happy (Slap me) 12:20, 28 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
