See WP:FUC, 1st criterion: if you see a fair use image and know of an alternative more free equivalent, please replace it. Unless the appropriate free image is found, the fair use image shouldn't be listed for deletion. Also, a fair use should be used by default when the free license is unclear. --Brandспойт17:39, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Delete - You have to meet all the criteria for fair use. I really don't see how this image makes a significant contribution to the Baku article (condition #8), and I don't think it's use in this context is at all encyclopedic (#5). Sorry. -- Sakurambo桜ん坊17:57, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As per condition 8, "significantly" also means that the image specifically illustrates relevant points or sections within the text (done). Regarding condition 5 can you say, that the celebrity image within the article is unencyclopedic? --Brandспойт18:12, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not saying the celebrity depicted in the picture is unencyclopedic. I'm saying that the link between Baku and Coolio is far too tenuous to justify fair use of this image in the Baku article. The article has about 1,500 words, but only 4 (e.g. that of Coolio) relate to this picture. It would presumably be easy for someone to produce a free picture showing another example of someone performing at the Heydar Aliyev Palace. -- Sakurambo桜ん坊23:01, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
WP:FUC states that a copyrighted image should not be used if a "free equivalent is available or could be created". I'm not sure if one exists or not, but a free equivalent could certainly be created by anyone who lives in the area. —ShadowHalo19:52, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
According to template, "...no free equivalent is available or could be created..." (not "and"). Normally, applying the 1st criterion, one who noticed the presumably replaceable fair use image should replace it by himself/herself. Meanwhile neither I nor anyone I know currently has an opportunity to create a free equivalent. Also, to be very strict, such images like LindseyLohan MeanGirls.jpg (Lindsay Lohan FA) also formally fail the 1st criterion without being tagged as replaceable. --Brandспойт23:01, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
"No free equivalent is available and could be created"? I don't think that's even grammatically correct. Iff no free equivalent is available and no free equivalent could be created, then it may be appropriate to use a copyrighted image. As far as the Lindsay Lohan image, it is being used to illustrate a film discussed in the film (with critical commentary); it is not possible to create a free picture of Lohan as Cady Heron. The picture of Coolio is being used to illustrate entertainment in Baku; it is possible to create a free picture of that. ShadowHalo00:24, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This image is just being used to illustrate the concert hall where this individual performed, right? It's not illustrating the individual himself or some such thing? Category:Azerbaijani Wikipedians has a list of Wikipedians from that country. Would anyone be willing to ask someone from that category for assistance in finding or creating a free picture? --BigDT23:21, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the copyright holder is Eurasianet, no credit was given to Mellnick. Also please note the 1st line of rationale. Again, using the 1st criterion (2nd indention), ShadowHalo should ask Eurasianet for permission. --Brandспойт13:13, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. But it would be better to contact Eurasianet to achieve any free license. IMO, if finally there is no feedback and response from my request to active Azeri Wikipedians, the image should be kept further. --Brandспойт01:16, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
