- It's a photo of a Chrysler Corp. trademark and a CV since the uploader cannot release a trademark into PD. Anyway, even if a non-free Fair Use claim is made, Fair Use images cannot be used in Userboxes JGHowes talk - 01:40, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- The photo is one I took of the hood of a Chrysler vehicle which I owned at the time. The (former) Chrysler logo indeed appears front and centre on the hood of this US-made vehicle, a red 1993 Dodge Shadow which is no longer on the road. The logo in question is no longer in use by Chrysler Corporation. Any copyright I release is whatever I would have held as photographer for taking the picture, the rest is out of my hands. Beyond that, I'm not too sure where you're going with this - trademark and copyright are two very different legal concepts and I am in no position to advise on these issues. --carlb 18:21, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- The logo is not only a trademark, but also copyrighted as a creative design (as opposed to the simple word "CHRYSLER", which can be trademarked but not copyrighted). This photograph is a derivative work of a copyrighted image and so could only be used under a fair-use claim, which as Carlb pointed out, wouldn't be valid for the way this image is used. Ukrainian rank insignia
editThe images below, claimed as {{PD-UA-exempt}}, are not works of the Ukrainian government, but of the commercial website http://www.uniforminsignia.net. The specific pages where they can be found are here, here, and here. The subject of images from this website has previously come up here and here. The gist of the issue is that the website creates digital images of rank insignia based on official descriptions, and then claims copyright on the resulting derivative works. The high quality and consistent appearance of these images has led a lot of Wikipedians to steal their images for use in our articles. This is morally wrong...our usage of their creations directly competes with their ability to attract visitors to their website. These images should be replaced with versions that either originate with the Ukrainian government or are created by Wikipedia users. Videmus Omnia Talk 02:28, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

- This non-free image violates WP:NFCC#8 in that it does not significantly increase readers' understanding of the article Chichester Psalms in a way text alone cannot. The caption says, "Note the changes of time signature. The movement settles into its predominant 7/4 metre in bar 11 (not shown)", but that information can just as easily be explained in prose, especially since the image doesn't even show part of what's being discussed. We don't need to see the sheet music to understand the rhythm of the piece. —Angr 05:43, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- Keep. I fail to see how it can be asserted that it does not significantly increase the reader's understanding. The Chichester Psalms is a work which is unusual in several respects, notably rhythmic complexity, changes of time signature, the tonality and the Hebrew text. The short extract from the score illustrates all these. Does Angr read music? Perhaps not. The opening Ura hanevel is a striking and characteristic introduction to the piece, and it also shows why it is considered so very difficult for the tenors, which is mentioned in the article . Their opening entry on a high A, a seventh above the basses, is challenging to sing, musically unusual, and establishes the sound world of the piece. If one does read music, then this adds very considerably to the understanding of the piece, as it allows one to visualise it in a way that mere words cannot. It is also not replaceable, since the work is still copyright. It is precisely analogous to using a fair-use picture of a deceased individual because no free picture is, or is likely to be available. You cannot have a free version of this, because no free version can exist. Guy (Help!) 07:04, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- As it happens, I do read music, and I sing tenor, and I can fully appreciate the difficulty in coming in on a high A, especially when the rest of the choir is singing a B-flat. But the point is, I (and anyone else who can read music) can appreciate that without seeing the sheet music. The same goes for everything else you mentioned: "rhythmic complexity, changes of time signature, the tonality and the Hebrew text" can all be adequately described with text, we don't need to be shown the sheet music to believe it. Notes on a page are nothing like a photograph; nothing about them is so evocative that they transcend a written description. Hearing the music is a different matter; if you had uploaded a 30-second audio excerpt of the beginning of the piece, I probably wouldn't be challenging it. But just the written music? It doesn't show anything that can't be explained in words; this image is not worth bending Wikipedia's second pillar for. —Angr 21:15, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- Delete. Not necessary to understand the article. (And at that small resolution it's illegible anyways!) Calliopejen1 23:35, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
- Which is why I uploiaded it at a higher resolution. Because, you know, I actually do believe (as one who has deleted large numbers of violations of FUC) that it is important and uniquely useful in aiding the reader to understand the topic. Considerably more so than any album cover, and that's for sure. I am told we have 14,803 of those. Guy (Help!) 22:01, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
