There are issues about using kilometres (or "kilometers") in pages. The Manual of Style (WP:MOS) has advised to show the first amount mentioned in kilometers with the word spelled-out for the language dialect of the article ("kilometers" for U.S. English). After the first use, the word can be abbreviated as "km". The measurement converter Template:Convert can be used to calculate the equivalent miles, but in the lede section of articles, hand-coded text is preferred to allow pop-up text from the lede to avoid showing "{{convert|...}}" in the pop-up description.

Outside the lead paragraph, use "{{convert|235|km|0}}" or for American English, use "{{convert|235|km|0|sp=us}}" with parameter "sp=us" to show the U.S. spelling.

Table of equivalent miles

edit

Because the lede section of articles should avoid using text templates (to allow pop-up display of simple text), the following table can be used to copy/paste conversions into the top of an article page:

The above table includes the non-breaking spaces ("&nbsp") to ensure smarter typesetting whenever lines wrap.
