- I've made a booking for Cafe Brunelli at 7:30pm - 187 Rundle St - http://cafebrunelli.com.au/
- Subject: Australian Strategy Survey and general meetup - context
Attendees
The Wikimedia movement strategy core team and working groups have completed reviewing the more than 1800 thematic statements we received from the first discussion. They have identified 5 themes that were consistent across all the conversations - each with their own set of sub-themes. These are not the final themes, just an initial working draft of the core concepts.
You are invited to join the online and offline discussions taking place on these 5 themes. This round of discussions will take place between now and June 12th. You can discuss as many as you like; we ask you to participate in the ones that are most (or least) important to you.
Here are the five themes, each has a page on Meta-Wiki with more information about the theme and how to participate in that theme's discussion:
- Healthy, Inclusive Communities
- The Augmented Age
- A Truly Global Movement
- The Most Respected Source of Knowledge
- Engaging in the Knowledge Ecosystem
On the movement strategy portal on Meta-Wiki, you can find more information about each of these themes, their discussions, and how to participate.
If you are unable to attend the event - please consider being involved by responding to the Australian component of the feedback process JarrahTree 01:03, 7 June 2017 (UTC)

editOrganizer: (Despite protests) User:pdfpdf - "No, I don't want to be the only organiser of this event!"
Invitees - Non-restrictive. If you think someone (including yourself) should be invited, please add your/their names to the list and invite them
- I'll certainly go. Location is more of a challenge, but anywhere in the city works. - Bilby (talk) 11:27, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
- Sorry, once again I just can't make it. Ping me in a couple of years when I don't have such young kids I reckon! Donama (talk) 03:47, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

editUser:JarrahTree will be in town on Friday 9th June as part of the Australian Strategy Survey.
If anyone in Adelaide or South Australia is interested in the Strategy Survey but cannot get to the meeting - please contact via strategy@wikimedia.org.au
I suggest a get-together somewhere in Rundle St (or somewhere close) on that evening. Pdfpdf (talk) 14:25, 31 May 2017 (UTC)
Possible live web/IRC text-based chat for those not attending?
editI'm not sure if this has ever been a thing before... but as a substitute for those not attending for whatever reason as well as to increase diversity of input, does anyone have a view on the feasibility and/or precedent of streaming a concurrent live web/IRC text-based chat, potentially made easier by broadcasting live audio from the meeting rather than providing a more intensive real-time transcript as part of the text-based chat? If this became a reality, I would for the first time join the discussion. Thoughts? Timeshift (talk) 12:13, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
- Interesting! In principle, I like it. In practice, live streaming from a noisy cafe sounds like it might have practical problems - i.e. maybe doing it from one of user:bilby's facilities which would have better infrastructure support, (but less food & alcohol) would be more successful? - Noise-canceling microphones have become ubiquitous. Even most recent smartphones do an outstanding job of clearly capturing the speaker's voice while virtually completely eliminating even loud background noise. It now seems both sides can be in noisy environments but neither would know it. Another benefit - this would allow for a permanent online verbatim copy of the meetings discussions as well as providing same for those who missed it. Timeshift (talk) 13:56, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
- User:Timeshift9: The more you say, the more I like the idea. BUT, I am but one of the people you want participating in this discussion ...
- (Further, is this the best place for such a discussion? On-the-other-hand, if we don't discuss it here, where would we discuss it?) Pdfpdf (talk) 14:11, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
- User:Timeshift9: Is there something/anything you think we might be able to actually able to implement tomorrow night? Pdfpdf (talk) 14:16, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
- I was hoping someone else would be more capable of implementing it... :) Timeshift (talk) 14:22, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

- This is amusing. A virtual way into a real-life meetup :) I see the value of meeting other SA editors face to face but so far for about 10 years never managed to get to one of these events. 10am on a Saturday or Sunday would definitely be easier if looking for suggestions. Post-meeting comments
editI was very pleased to have met whom I met last night. I was disappointed to have missed Timeshift and Donama.
A brief and very truncated aspect of the meetup was at the stage of the last 3 days of cycle 2 of the Strategy programme which has been bannered at some stages on watch pages - the 5 themes and the strategy were discussed - and feedback collected - please feel to contact if at all interested in fuelling the Australian submission/report JarrahTree 11:02, 10 June 2017 (UTC)
The whole process has evolved where 'cycle 3' is about to be invoked - and there will be more opportunity to give feed back to the system JarrahTree 23:52, 13 June 2017 (UTC)
