Bangalore Wikipedia/Wikimedia Wikimeetups are run and organised by volunteers. If you are free, motivated and interested, you are highly encouraged to help organise the next Wikimeetup. We usually meet at least on every second sunday of each month.
This is a To do list/step by step guide on setting up & organising the regular Wikimeetups in Bangalore.
- Join the Bangalore Wikimedia mailing list and express your interest in organising the next Wikimeetup by sending a mail to wikimedia-in-blr@lists.wikimedia.org.
- Create a new meetup page Wikipedia:Meetup/Bangalore/BangaloreXX. You can find the template here . XX should be replaced by the next Wikimeetup number. Don't forget to the replace the variable XX on the meetup page, update the date of the meetup etc.
- Create a redirect page at WP:MBLXX pointing to Wikipedia:Meetup/Bangalore/BangaloreXX.
- Update Template:Meetup and Wikipedia:Meetup/India template on the new meetup date. (example).
- Update the invite page Wikipedia:Meetup/Bangalore/Invite with the new meetup details (example)
- Update the Wikipedia:Meetup/Bangalore#Upcoming_Meetups list for the new meetup.
- Feel free to ask the "regulars" in case of any doubts/help.
- Centre for Internet & Society, Domlur helps us in hosting these meetups every month. Contact Ajoy Kumar/ Roysen of CIS for booking the venue , atleast 2 weeks before the meetup date. If you don't have their contact numbers, please get in touch with User:Arunram, User:logicwiki or User:Tinucherian. Confirm the venue with CIS.
- Set up the agenda for the meetup like Talks, discussions etc and update the meetup page. Call and invite the speakers & discuss the topics.
- Inform the wikimedia-in-blr@lists.wikimedia.org and wikimediaindia-l@lists.wikimedia.org on the agenda & plans for the meetup.
- Create event pages on Facebook & Linkedin and invite friends and interested people. Tweet on Twitter regularly about the upcoming meetup. Call/mail & invite possibly interested people
- Inform the press/media ,if possible, to cover the meetup.
- Talk to Roysen , 2 days before the meetup, on how to collect the CIS keys.
- Since the meetup starts at 3 PM, make sure you are at the venue by atleast 2:30 PM IST and setup/check for chairs, projector, Wifi etc.
- Lead the meetup sessions. Welcome all and ask for introductions of the attendees.
- Don't forget to collect the list of attendees with name, username, phone number & email addresses. Send the list to wikimedia-in-blr/wikimediaindia-l admins (wikimedia-in-blr-owner@lists.wikimedia.org and wikimediaindia-l-owner@lists.wikimedia.org ) to invite them to the mailing lists.
- Don't forget to take photos during the sessions and upload them to Wikimedia Commons later.
- Help the audience with the snacks arranged during the break time.
- If there are first timers, do follow up with them to get started on editing Wikipedia.
- Return the keys of CIS to the appropriate person after the meetup. (Ask Roysen for instructions on this).
- Mark the invite page Wikipedia:Meetup/Bangalore/Invite as successful (example).
- Substitute the relavent parts of invite page to the meetup page (example)
- After uploading the images to the commons, send the link to the category to wikimedia-in-blr@lists.wikimedia.org and wikimediaindia-l@lists.wikimedia.org .
