Wikipedia Workshop Cairo

A Wikipedia Workshop Cairo in Cairo will be held from 21st October - 22nd October 2012.

We are a team of researchers at the University of Oxford and AU Sharjah, researching the representation of the Arab world in Wikipedia. We are interested in your editing experiences and are holding a workshop in Cairo from the 21st- 22nd October 2012, with a budget for paying the travel, subsistence and accommodation expenses of participants from countries in the region.

About the workshop

[edit]

We are interested in what it is like to contribute to Wikipedia in Arabic and, in English, to articles about the Middle East and North Africa. What barriers do you perceive to exist in Wikipedia? How can articles be made better, and generally what can be done to expand and improve Arabic Wikipedia?

We will take care of the organization and planning and all you have to do is show up and be ready to discuss. But if you would like to help shape some of the discussion themes in advance, please let us know. We have booked time in the workshops for Wikipedian-led discussions.

Dates, travel and accommodation

[edit]

We may be able to pay travel and accommodation expenses for people coming from outside Egypt. The workshop will begin on Sunday 21st October in the morning and conclude on the afternoon of the 22nd. Participants flying in will arrive on the evening of Saturday 20th October, and fly home again on the morning of Tuesday 23rd October. The accommodation and workshop will take place at a hotel and conference centre just outside Cairo. Travel from central Cairo and the airport will be arranged and/or reimbursed.

Participation

[edit]

If you wish to participate in this workshop, please send an email to wikiproject@oii.ox.ac.uk as soon as possible with your Wikipedia username, stating your experience of editing Arabic WP or editing Arab topics on Wikipedia. Please also indicate whether you would like to apply for a travel scholarship and include the country you would be travelling from.
