About this event

edit

The Institute of Cultural Inquiry in Los Angeles is holding its fourth meetup welcoming both new and experienced editors.

We will offer practical help and advice to new editors and a friendly, quiet place to edit pages. If you're not sure where to start, you can work from one of our lists of notable people who are not yet in Wikipedia. You’ll have access to the 3000+ books on art and visual culture in our library to help you in your research and to use as sources for Wikipedia images. The ICI will provide drinks and snacks to sweeten the session.

Special topic: We will offer a short hands-on tutorial on how to add images to Wikimedia Commons for use on Wikipedia pages. We will cover the basics of copyright issues on Wikipedia, finding useable images, selecting file formats and sizes, and adding photographs you've taken yourself. Tip: images in books published in the United States before 1923 are out of copyright and can be added to Wikipedia without difficulties. If you have such a book with images you'd like to see on Wikipedia, bring it along.
