Images of women in STEM edit-a-thon @ Art.Science.Gallery. / Austin, TX
In conjunction with "Go Ahead and Do It," an art exhibit featuring portraits of women in the STEM disciplines, the Art.Science.Gallery. in Austin, Texas is hosting an Ada Lovelace Day-themed edit-a-thon on October 13, 2014. The primary goals of the event are to teach participants how to add images to Wikimedia Commons (where Wikipedia images live) and to to add images of women in science to the pages of Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. These images may be artworks such as painted portraits, or they may be photographs. We will go over the process of finding images with the appropriate licensing and adding images to Wiki pages so that it becomes second nature for all participants.
Participants: The event is open to anyone who wishes to help illustrate the history of women in STEM! No Wiki editing experience necessary; as needed, tutorials will be provided for Wikipedia/Commons newcomers. Female editors are particularly encouraged to attend.
What to bring: Laptops and power cords. Also, if you are able to do so, please go out and take digital photos of notable women in the STEM fields prior to the event. Subjects should have achieved notoriety in their fields to be considered; people who already have Wikipedia articles would be great, but you may also consider women who are not yet on Wikipedia. Bring your photo files with you. Questions? Contact Maia.
Registration:All participants must RSVP through the Eventbrite registration page. Wikimedians may also submit their usernames below.
