FAQ
editI'm editing for the first time! How do I get started?
editHere's a handy guide you can use to get started.
I'm not sure what I should edit. Do you have any suggestions?
editCitation hunt gives you random suggestions on a topic area of your choice! Use the search box to narrow down results by Wikipedia category. Below are some starting points for identifying helpful categories. You can search citation hunt using names of subcategories from each link:
- Category:Black Canadian culture (18)
- Category:History of Black people in Canada (54)
- Category:Black Canadian people by occupation (15)
If you'd like to broadly browse editing suggestions, look to tasklists. Wikipedia:WikiProject_Black_History_in_Canada_Tasklist focuses on experiences in Canada. See also these additional suggestions, ordered by type of article.
Below are some existing tasklists maintained by community initiatives. We note that many suggestions centre experiences in the United States.
- Wikipedia:Meetup/Black Lunch Table/Lists of Articles
- Wikipedia:WikiProject African diaspora/to do
- Wikipedia:WikiProject AfroCine/Article Suggestions
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Black history
- This is an open list. Please feel free to add your suggestions.
The Bookshelf may also spark some ideas on what to edit.
If you are attending a virtual editing session, you can also ask a facilitator for help finding your first editing task.
You are, of course, always welcome to find ways to edit beyond what has been suggested.
What languages can I edit in?
editYou can edit in any language. We are currently counting edits in the following language Wikipedias:
If you are editing in a language which does not appear on this list, event facilitators are happy to assist. Please leave a request on User:Utl_jung's talk page and they will get to it as soon as possible. We can count edits retroactively, so you can start editing without waiting for the facilitator's confirmation.
