ScheduleeditEvery hour, on the hour, we'll run a mini-workshop on getting started. Join us for that, or just come, eat pizza, and ask for help as needed!

- What?
Inspired by the work of scholars Thomas Dublin and Rosalyn Terborg-Penn, as well as the online database Women and Social Movements in the United States 1600-2000, this year's Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon will seek to create or improve Wikipedia entries on Black and militant women suffragists. This event is coordinated by Copyright and Information Policy Librarian Laura Quilter and Digital Project Manager Jeremy Smith, in collaboration with UMass faculty, and is open to all who are interested.
- What's an edit-a-thon? A one-day event for students, scholars, librarians, and Wikipedians to come together to edit and create Wikipedia pages. These efforts help increase the historical representation of political activists from under-represented groups.
- From 10am to 2pm, we will be offering "how to" workshops on Wikipedia every hour on the hour.
- Who?
- Anyone can contribute. Join us if you know a specific page you want to work on, you want to learn more about editing Wikipedia, or if you just want to pitch in. We will have people on hand to help with Wikipedia editing as well as laptops for those who need one.
- Where?
- The W.E.B. Du Bois Library, 19th Floor (Room 1920). UMass Amherst
- When?
- Friday, October 27, 2017, from 10-3. (Drop in at any time, for as long as you want. LUNCH provided!)
- Workshops are on the hour.

- How?
- Do you already know the Wikipedia page you'd like to edit? If you know what needs to be changed or added, be prepared to cite your sources. Since Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, any content or editing needs to follow conventions of neutrality and to cite published sources. Original research cannot be used. For more information, see: WP:Five pillars
- Want to contribute but don't have a specific page in mind? Great! We will have a list of people and works on hand for you.
- Want to contribute but can't make it? Please get this information out to as many people as possible! Send suggestions for Wikipedia pages that need to be added or edited to lquilter [at] library.umass.edu with a one-sentence description of the person or topic, or add their names below.
- Questions?
- Contact Laura (lquilter [at] library.umass.edu)
- What to bring
- a laptop (but we'll have some if you don't)
- a willingness to learn how to use Wikipedia markup
- a friend or two! Bring along other people -- it's more fun and more productive too.

Articles Needing Your Help
editThis year we will be working from a list of black & white female abolitionists and suffragists generated for the Women and Social Movements in the United States database edited by scholars Thomas Dublin and Rosalyn Terborg-Penn. This work is part of a multi-years project aimed at increasing the depth of coverage of women and underrepresented groups in Wikipedia.
