What is #1Lib1Ref?

edit

1Lib1Ref is a campaign inviting every librarian on Earth to improve the quality of Wikipedia articles by adding missing citations. Any citation to a reliable source is a benefit to Wikipedia readers worldwide. The goal is for every participant to add a single reference to Wikipedia during the campaign period, which runs from January 15 to February 5. Western is hosting three events during which you can learn about Wiki editing, become a Wiki Editor yourself and help us eliminate the backlog of "citation needed" notices.

Why participate?

edit

There will be food, prizes and the opportunity to meet and network with other library workers throughout Western Libraries. It's fun, exciting and afterwards you'll be able to put a line on your resume about being a Wiki Editor. Plus, you'll be improving the information landscape for Wikipedia users worldwide!

What to expect

edit

On the day of an event, drop into the lab and find an available computer (you can also use your own device). If you don't already have one, go to Wikipedia and create a free account. Choose your name wisely or you'll be stuck with something silly like PrincessPrickly for the rest of your life (speaking from experience).

There will be people available to help you get started or you can follow the self-guided instructions below.

The goal is to add at least 1 citation and tag the edit with #1Lib1Ref and #WLib so we can track our impact.
