Wikipedia:Never call a spade a shovel
This is an essay. It contains the advice or opinions of one or more Wikipedia contributors. This page is not an encyclopedia article, nor is it one of Wikipedia's policies or guidelines, as it has not been thoroughly vetted by the community. It's sometimes said "Sometimes you have to call a spade a fucking shovel." This is incorrect. A spade digs holes. A shovel moves stuff. The fact that some folks confuse the two doesn't mean you should lower yourself to their level of ignorance -- you're a Wikipedian, aren't you?
"Fucking" doesn't help. (Shovels don't reproduce that way.) Within a smaller social circle, profanity has valid uses; emphasis, catharsis, or social bonding. The diversity of Wikipedia culture means that it's offensive to some, noise to others, and never adds value.
