Straw poll (not active)

Due to the elusive nature of consensus in the discussion of Wikipedia:No open proxies (WP:NOP), it has become apparent that an informal straw poll may be the best way to extract some sort of consensus. (This is often done with hotly disputed policies.) This poll will not directly decide the destiny of WP:NOP, since it is not a ballot. If consensus cannot be parsed, this poll will be ignored.

Main opinions on this issue include:

• "Support current meta version", in broad support of revision of the policy, recently rewritten by Pathoschild (talk · contribs) and currently (19:22, 9 July 2007 (UTC)) at meta:No open proxies, which has gained some support at meta:Talk:No open proxies
• "Support older meta version" in broad support of this revision that is currently (19:22, 9 July 2007 (UTC)) at WP:NOP, and previously at Meta Wiki
  • The major difference between the two policies is that, according to the latter, users are prohibited from editing via open proxies; according to the former, users may edit via open proxies. Both support blocking open proxies.
• "Oppose", in broad opposition of keeping WP:NOP a policy on the English Wikipedia.
