Wikipedia:Offensive username proposal
This page is currently inactive and is retained for historical reference. Either the page is no longer relevant or consensus on its purpose has become unclear. To revive discussion, seek broader input via a forum such as the village pump. |
For the actual policy, please see Wikipedia:Username policy
Numerous vandals and miscreants have created insulting and offensive (and sometimes just annoying) usernames such as (real usernames have been replaced with User):
- User:! ! ! ! ! FUCK WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW FUCK ! ! ! ! !
- User:! ! ! ! ! I'm HereToHelp! I like to fuck trees!
- [[User:! ! ! ! [User] is an unemployed bum]]
- [[User:!!!! [User] was a sockpuppet of Willy on Wheels]]
- [[User:!!!!!!!!!!!![User] is a pedophile who has AIDS]]
- [[User:([User]'s mom has some really huge tator tots)]]
- User:And people clamor to block you even if you aren't slick willy
- [[User:And suck on them, [User] ]]
- [[User:And you know [User] likes the titties]]
- User:Assholes with Ugly Testicles
- [[User:[Vulgar pun of username] Loves Badonkadonk]]
- User:Be..non fucked.......w.i.k.i.p.e.d.i.a in its nigger hole
- [[User:[User]shouldunbanmeorhesgay]]
- [[User:[User] and [User] Are Gay Together]]
- [[User:Willy + [User] = lifetime of titty-fucking]]
- [[User:¡[User] blocked the US Congress on Wheels!]]
Indeed, garbage like this is the bulk of what shows up in the first few pages of our "User list". Such accounts cannot be destroyed, but are subject to username changes. I propose that we warehouse these offensive accounts by using the username change function to change said accounts to a series of numbered accounts prefaced by a "¥" (which comes near the end of all characters in the Wiki alphabetization scheme).
Each of the above could be changed and the actual pages moved to, e.g., User:¥-00001. Please discuss this proposal on the talk page. bd2412 T 20:58, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Revised proposal
editPursuant to the extensive discussion of this topic, I propose that the following be adopted as a guideline:
- Bureaucrats are encouraged to rename an account for which the username constitutes defamation of another user, or reveals personal information about another user.
- Bureaucrats, may, within their discretion, rename an account for which the username constitutes a non-defamatory attack on another person or entity, or pointless vulgarity.
How about that? (Please discuss on the talk page). bd2412 T 23:15, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
