Address: | LuEsther T. Mertz Library New York Botanical Garden 2900 Southern Blvd Bronx, NY 10458 |
The LuEsther T. Mertz Library of the New York Botanical Garden welcomed Wikipedia editors to participate in this Wednesday, June 15, 2016, Editathon focused on creating and enhancing pages for Botanists who have made significant collections in New York State.
Editors used the vast historic collections of the Mertz Library in order to create and edit existing pages. Training was provided for those who have no prior experience editing Wikipedia. A training session will be offered during the first hour of this event. New editors are encouraged to attend this training. Experienced editors may arrive at any point during the event's duration.
Index Herbariorum and KE EMu, the herbarium collections database at NYBG, were used as starting points to determine significant plant collectors in New York State. Historically, this has largely been a male-dominated field, so there has been intentional effort by library staff to promote representation of female botanists, as much as possible.
Please register through our EventBrite page, in addition to registering through this Wikipedia page.
The participants affiliated with this initiative will not make any edits that would not be beneficial to the goals of Wikipedia. We will modify our editing behavior if any edits conflict with Wikipedia guidelines. Please contact the Project Coordinator, emjackson42 (talk) if any activities appear to go against this statement.
