Nu metal

I've listed this article for peer review because my bud Statik N has pretty much become a dragon for this topic, and he expressed interest in getting this GA. I requested CE a while back but I needed time to work on other projects for a while. Now that I'm awaiting review for two articles, I thought I'd have this PR'd in the meantime where I have no timely obligations. He doesn't seem to know what to put in to make it GA, but I think the article could use a few improvements before it's nominated (it's certainly showing a lot of effort on his part, might make it a co-nomination).

You may add something if it is not already featured in the article. I think it's a good way to check whether the article is well-researched.

• I see there are capitalized titles from Blabbermouth in the references. KORN should be Korn, HELMET should be Helmet, etc.

• Also, refs shouldn't be included in the lead, because the lead should summarize the entire article, not contain exclusive information.

It's fine, but listing that many refs makes me think it's a disputable statement. For example, ref names such as "Sam", "FinalSix", "Decibel", "VH1", are not needed, I think, because they are already used for confirming other topics.--Retrohead (talk) 12:09, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

Taking a closer look at your concern I think I realize what he's doing. Statik has a habit of putting all the refs for everything mentioned in a single sentence at the end of the sentence. So he cited all the fashion aspects at the end. This may be a hefty task to fix because we're swimming in ref coding here, but I think that should be fixed. @DannyMusicEditor: I used to do that because I read WP:CITEDENSE and thought it was a matter of style. Over time I found that this made it unnecessarily difficult to re-check my own citations, let alone verify others. WP:INTEGRITY convinced me to place inline citations more precisely. —Ringbang (talk) 03:12, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

• The "Nookie" sample should have sound quality around 60 kbps, not 160 as it currently has.

• Several parts of the article seem to be repetitive or out of sequence. For instance, in the lead it mentions how metalcore supplanted nu metal in the New Wave of American Heavy Metal, and then only at the very end of the lead does article mention that nu metal was part of that movement, and only there is the movement wikilinked.

Likewise, in the history section, it mentions the importance of Korn in the NWOAHM, and says how that band helped set the sonic template for the genre, but doesn't mention that Korn is considered the pioneer until slightly later, where a mention of Korn's EP is shoved into a sentence about how the band is from California. The whole early development section I think needs to be cleaned up so that it flows better.

• I think P.O.D.'s Snuff the Punk should be mentioned somewhere in the early development section, since it was one of the first nu-metal albums, preceding many of the other seminal nu metal recordings.

I would've thought Snuff was rap metal. It does have an unsourced nu metal tag, and POD was nu metal, but I don't know about that one specifically. We'll see what we can find on it. dannymusiceditor ^{what'd I do now?} 00:35, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

It's definitely leaning toward rap metal, but I'd consider it nu metal as well. There is a mention I found in the Cleveland Scene that's cited in the article.--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 01:39, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

Your second observation sounds like it may be the case. So far, this is the only reference I've found that mentions Snuff in much detail. It is interesting how you noticed a nu metal album from before Korn's self titled record, though. dannymusiceditor ^{what'd I do now?} 14:27, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

• This article seems to be following American English standards. In Amercian English, bands, unless they have a plural noun as a name (Deftones, for example), should be treated as a singular. Thus, Korn did not release "their" studio album, but "its" studio album. However, for plural names, a plural possessive should be used - Deftones debuted with their studio album Adrenaline.--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 23:30, 31 March 2016 (UTC)

I think it's time to close this. It's been open for nearly three months and we've gotten plenty of comment and help. I know what needs fixed now, and as soon as I get some of these books to help me fix one particular problem, I can nom this for GA with Statik N. I need to start PR's on my net projects.
