I've mentioned this at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Opera as well, so hopefully you'll be getting some more opera aficionados to help out as well. I would say that the article could use a more in-depth musical analysis, more inline citations to show where some specific information was obtained, resolve some of the redlinks on the actors, much more information on how the opera came into being, etc. And like I said, I'll be focusing on helping you out with this article, too.
