I am opening a peer review because I want this article to exemplify the best Wikipedia has to offer. I have written the article entirely with no similar FA's to model on, as no modern theme park has reached this standard. Naturally, all feedback on the article's prose, layout, comprehensiveness, use of images etc would be greatly appreciated. — CR4ZE (T • C) 04:46, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
Comments from Cas Liber
editYeah I went to Movie world once pretty early on (1992??). Reads okay at first glance....
- It was Australia's first junior coaster. - err, can you elaborate what a junior coaster is?
- The chronological flow of openings and closings is pretty long over the three sections. Some extra colour has been added but not sure if it is enough...
Comments from Adog
edit- Lead prose, the word "patrol" is a bit awkward to describe costume characters wandering the park.
- In the entire article, suggest using
"roller coaster"
as opposed to a blend of "roller coaster" and "coaster" to describe attractions to be consistent.
History
- In "Park set-up and opening", suggest adding a small descriptor (maybe American developer) for C.V. Wood as done with Dino De Laurentiis earlier on.
- In "Early attractions, the first 10 years", the sentence "There was a tram ride through and tour of the film studio" is a bit awkward. Possibly merge with the next sentence, as with the following statements of the two live stunt shows.
- In "The 2000s":
- MOS:DUPLINK – "props"
- I'm a bit uneasy using Mitch Hawker's polls as they aren't up-to-standard with the quality of, say, the Golden Ticket Awards. See relevant discussion here.
- In "The 2010s-present":
- MOS:DUPLINK – Arkham Asylum – Shock Therapy, Intamin, and Mack Rides
- Possibly add the word "to" in-between "namesake" and "the" within the parenthesis: "(its namesake to the DC villain)".
- Change wording for the sentence "Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the park temporarily closed from 22 March 2020" as per MOS:CURRENT.
Park layout
- Possibly link ouvre to Work of art or relevant wiki-link descriptor.
- The word "patrol" as stated in the lead prose comment.
Events and guest features
- MOS:DUPLINK – Batman and Batman Returns
- The first instance of "lift hill" could be wiki-linked.
Impact
- In "Reception and incidents":
- The statement beginning "Reviewing soon Movie World's 1991 opening..." is a bit awkward. Possibly add the word after between "soon" and "Movie World's" if the review was made after the park's opening.
- Suggest adding a comma before the "but" in the sentence: "He considered Police Academy Stunt Show the standout among several well-themed attractions but noted the park lacked the scale and grandeur of American muses Disneyland and Universal Studios."
- The sentence "One car of a train became detached from the rails when a wheel mechanism broke" suggests that the roller coaster operates with more than one-car trains, possibly eliminate "train" in favor of One of the roller coaster's cars became detached from the rails when a wheel mechanism broke.
Overall, the article is well-written and fills all the need-to-know criteria. I would suggest fixing the grammatical or consistency issues to improve better comprehension. Great job improving to GA status! All the best, Adog (Talk・Cont) 06:34, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
@Casliber: thank you for your feedback. I tried to clarify what a junior coaster is, if you'd like to take a look (see diff). I think I'm understanding your point about chronological flow but wonder if you could give a couple of examples where improvement is needed and I'll take that and apply elsewhere. What would be your plan of attack? Naturally, it's not easy to write on park history without it reading like proseline so I have tried to be creative in my approach and add colour, as you put it. Appreciate your helpful commentary.
@Adog: thanks for your feedback as well. Just some follow-up (see diff as above):
- Wikified lift hill although removed Arkham's lift hill climb as I don't think it's offered any more (I think the DC Rivals climb replaced it and Arkham's been SBNO for nearly a year).
- Couldn't see dup-linking of Arkham Asylum – Shock Therapy unless you include the link for Lethal Weapon – The Ride, but I think linking twice would be appropriate here as it was an extensive refurb/rename.
- Didn't link ouvre per LINKCLARITY; I know it's a "colourful" word choice but that's intentional as it's also succinct, and linking isn't going to help readers understand it.
- Removed the Doomsday namesake bit as it wasn't flowing.
- Can see the argument against Mitch Hawker: it's a shame he can't be used as the voting system was quite clever but clearly reliability/voter demographic was too hazy. I do still hold that the GTA's are clearly skewed towards American parks and could name countless coasters in Europe/Asia/Australia that have been snubbed. I wish there was a reputable poll that took more notice of the non-US coaster sphere.
- Re coaster vs roller coaster, I see your point that the usage is inconsistent but haven't fixed this yet. If you think it's ok, I'd rather stick with roller coaster the first time and then coaster everywhere else as this is more concise.
- It read "reviewing soon after Movie World's 1991 opening" at some point but I must've done this by accident.
Everything else covered (I think) if you'd like to take a look. Hope you don't feel I'm simply pushing back on your points. Your comments have been very helpful and I'm keen to hear more if you'd like to share. (Hope you don't mind my "wall-of-text"; I prefer not to make replies inline.)
I will do a preparatory run-through and copy-edit before nominating at FAC but in the interim between would love to hear more thoughts. — CR4ZE (T • C) 11:27, 18 October 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for addressing my once-read-through comments, as the peer-review process is very guided on an oral defense on behalf of the main contributor. We all have different knowledge of the Wiki so your push-backs are also inciteful and welcomed. As per your points, they seem clarified. I also agree with your Mitch Hawker prose, it's unfortunate. Maybe there is another reliable amusement park database/rewards that aren't known internationally but regionally in Oceania or Asia to account for this problem? - Nothing comes to mind unfortunately, besides enthusiast blogs and the like. Australia's theme park industry is miniscule in comparison so it seems unlikely we would have anything to the calibre of the GTA's. However, I will keep digging nonetheless. Again just to say, I'm grateful for you taking the time to leave comments and for the follow-up as well. If there's nothing else, I'll be closing this over the weekend and moving to the next step. Of course, your input there would be warmly welcomed, though not expected. — CR4ZE (T • C) 23:21, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
Thank you once again to Casliber and Adog; I will now be closing this peer review. — CR4ZE (T • C) 07:39, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
