I would eventually like to see the Vancouver Portal become a featured portal. What steps should be taken to get it closer. All comments are welcome. Mkdwtalk 05:08, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sort the categories as mentioned, and we need to expand the topic section. I also think that we should add a couple Vancouver specific sections (like the London portal, which is the style we are looking up to). AQu01rius (User • Talk) 19:27, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I was able to expand the topic section considerably. The Showcase Article, Picture, and Biography along with the Quotes, News, and Did You Know, now make it so the portal has unique rotating content. Mkdwtalk 01:49, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The portal is about the Indian state of Kerala. The article has already been peer-reviewed by WikiProject India here. The portal employs a system of inbuilt code as explained on the instructions page for the "selected article" and "selected picture" rotation. Though this has resulted in the elimination of human involvement in updating these sections of the portal, it has made maintaining archives a slightly difficult matter. Due to this technical difficulty, archives are not maintained for these two sections. I welcome suggestions from the community as to whether archiving is indeed a must for the portal; along with your suggestions and comments for the portal's improvement. Thank you!--thunderboltz(Deepu) 11:07, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Truthfully, this is one of the nicest portals I've seen. It's well laid out, simple to navigate (via its color scheme), and I especially like the linking of the Malayalam Wikipedia, a good idea that I haven't seen done very often. A few [very] minor comments:
  1. "long-lived" in the opening. It seems to imply that Kerala the state is long-lived (i.e. old) rather than its people have one of the longest life-spans. I'm not sure of a better word though.
  2. Is there any way to associate the picture (e.g. in News) with the specific item that refers to it? Perhaps an image caption with just the date, or a star? I know the Main Page does it like this too (i.e. you don't understand the photo until you read down through all the news items), but it's something I never liked. If it's impossible, too much trouble, or you don't like it, don't worry about it.
Looks great, keep up the good work!--Will.i.am 22:13, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the comments.   Reg. point #1, I've reordered the list. Does it sound right now? And #2, I've added a caption to explain the photo. It still doesn't really connect with the news, but I'm out of ideas on how we can implement a connection any further...--thunderboltz(Deepu) 13:46, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
