editMeerkat Musicals Ad
editIn their latest ad, the Compare the Meerkat meerkats are inserted into what I presume are existing movies. I recognise La La Land, Ironman II, Ghostbusters and (I think) Independence Day: Resurgence, but what are the others?
- Soldiers dancing around a tank during a battle
- Men wearing rabbit masks being chased by US cavalry
- Greek warriors dancing on the steps of a building, with Regency dancers in front
- A vampire driving a car while laughing maniacally
Can anybody identify those films? Thanks, Rojomoke (talk) 16:11, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- To my eye all of those sequences look like they were made specifically for this ad and are not from any films. One exception is the UFO which kinda looks like it is from District 9. If they are from other films I'll be interest to see what other editors find. MarnetteD|Talk 16:38, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- Well, there's definitely a clip from La La Land (The couple on a bench at 22 secs, as this was used before in a Sky Movies ad), so I assume the rest are from real movies. Rojomoke (talk) 20:48, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- The Greek warriors are Spartans, from 300. The vampire has to be the Nicholas Hoult character from Mad Max: Fury Road. Not sure about the bunny masks, but they reminded me a bit of The Purge. No idea about the soldiers. › Mortee talk 21:40, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- Someone commenting on the YouTube video thinks the vampire bit is a reference to Suicide Squad, not Fury Road. I've not seen that, so who knows. Incidentally, the "martian" in the vampire's car, hiding behind the seat, looks more like a Gremlin to me. If you really want a challenge, there are apparently 52 movie references in this one (there's a Sun article giving the 52 answers, which I won't link to) › Mortee talk 22:10, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- The guys in suits being chased by the cavalry aren't all wearing bunny masks; they seem to be random animal masks, the bunny is just easiest to see, the one behind him seems to be a pig mask. It could be a reference to You're Next, where the killers wore animal masks, though they wore black jumpsuits, not suit-and-tie like in that clip. It could also be an oblique reference to Point Break, though the robbers wore suit-and-tie with masks of American Presidents rather than animals. --Jayron32 18:18, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
